I was quite lucky since I'm still early in the game, after defeating centipede I went to misty peaks and the screen transition had a strange effect and took me elsewhere, you then have to fight a boss and if you defeat the boss you unlock Renge.
Once you unlock her go to the far left side of the Getsu estate.
but I want her original move set.
She still move like Fuma now
As it stands, I want to like her just for feeling faster but the problems this game has still remains. Most of the damage the game gets on you is about overlapping off rhythms. I can finish runs fine, but the action happening on screen is really boring and it doesn't even get fundamental things right. Like, why is jump height so anemic? You can't even clear certain attacks with your own mobility, and if you want to use weapons then you better hope that the enemy doesn't have a ledge hanging in front of them.
So what it boils down to is getting clear of the enemy's proximity triggers so that they stop noticing you then slip in there... which means that engaging anything where the game is trying to be "challenging" is about making sure you recognize that everything is a hazard and your tools are typically inadequate or uninteresting (stack damage).
I really expected her to be more interesting based on the description saying "But you can use counter hits to deal big damage" and the thing is that you can already do that with Getsu Fuma lmfao. She plays nearly the same she just has faster foot speed. People calling her a glass cannon are pretty hilarious because she doesn't deal more damage that Getsu in ways that matter. If you know how to counter hit, enemies will die about as quickly, if not slower since Renge's base attack power is still lower.
The appeal is speed and fall recovery, but why would I want to be getting hit anyway? And if you demonize with Fuma, the tuning is about the same but you do more damage so if you're farming or whatever it's negligible.
The game is still entirely willing to sucker punch you, attack off screen and make stealth a meaningless stat. I almost never get stealth breaks with her, same as with Fuma. Maybe you'll freeze an enemy and it'll count as a Stealth Break, it has happened for me, but it's so seldom a factor I'd just as soon the game be changed so that positioning matters.
These are things I want to see changed. Again, calling Renge a "glass cannon" is a misnomer, you would have had to make her tools damaging. I played her on a file I had cleared with Fuma on Veteran and you really see zero benefit from her until you get her stats up and they are NOT any better than Fuma's in any significant way.
I know how to counter hit most things in the game, so grouping and placing enemies is something she should technically excel at, you'll even see it if you can close the gap and get a Flash off on an enemy that is in a group... but that's not going to matter if things start shooting you from off screen, removing your demonization or stalling for time.
She's novel, but the game needs to get better and she can stand to be something more than a run someone does on Commoner that I couldn't care less about.
