Can`t run Unreal Tournament 2004.
Can`t run Unreal Tournament 2004. I`m running Win 8 if that matters.

I`m getting the following Error:

Check your videocard drivers. The error is: D3DERR_DEVICELOST

has nothing to do with win 8 as it runs fine for me on win 8 pro 64bit try updating your directx http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 also you gpu drivers :)

I found the reason: remove windows 7 compatability mode from the exe.
It runs fine without it.

You probably notice that your game boots up in windowed mod, when you go full screen it gives this device lost error.

Ya'll need to find the UT2004.ini file in ut2004\system and modify it by un commenting the following line:

RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice

This is an old message, but the root cause of this appears to be this line under the following section, it needs to be set to FALSE (by default its set to TRUE):

[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
ReduceMouseLag=False

I cant find the .ini file. ♥♥♥♥

See below how to find the .ini

Backup your settings before overwriting any files. Just dump all files from the dropbox link below in your UT2004/System folder.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/l8fuzserqus4ji6/AAAXGtljLNAUbObfP92AwvaLa?dl=0

If you cannot find the location where you have UT installed. Right click on the game in your library on Steam. Go properties, local files, browse local files.

These are my settings, I play on a 16:10 screen, you should change the FOV to 106 if you play on 16:9 by opening the console with tab or ` and type: fov 106.

dont do the open gl thing. try this first

Open System/Unreal2.ini (or System/UT2004.ini), find the line containing "ReduceMouseLag", and change it to say "ReduceMouseLag=False".
