Can't unlock Xan/fight The Corrupt in the finals

I've already finished the game two times on different difficulties and unlocked both the Clanlord and Malcolm by fighting their team on Experienced and Average respectively. Now on my 3rd, 4th, and 5th playthrough on Novice, I kept facing the Iron Skull and Clanlord at the finals instead. I remember that everyone said you unlock the special characters by playing on different difficulty. Is Xan/The Corrupt unavailable on Novice? I tried playing on Skilled but it's way too hard for me (Man I hate Bombing Run). And no editing the file to unlock special characters is kinda pointless.

So is there a way to edit the save file for me to skip to pre-finals (AS-Mothership) on Skilled? Or is the game just bugged?

If you want to unlock XAN the hard way, you have to defeat him on GODLIKE, if you want to do it the easy way, you can either type into the (in-Game) console changecharacter XAN and you will use it next time you spawn. Or if you go into the installed ut2004 directory and go into system, open the XplayersL2.upl with notepad, go down to Player=(DefaultName="Xan"), go across to Menu="XAN", deelete where it says XAN show it only shows Menu="". XAN should now be unlocked

1. Not true. I've seen people fighting Xan on Experienced.
2. I already stated that editing the files is pointless since I can't fight them that way.

To unlock Xan, you need to have first unlocked both ClanLord and Malcolm. Beat the tournament on a different difficulty than the difficulties you unlocked ClanLord and Malcolm on.

Exactly, I already beat and unlocked Clanlord on Experienced and Malcolm on Average, but I can't fight The Corrupt and Xan on Novice.

Maybe there is a rule that you need to beat him on a higher level than on what you beat those others on, like ollie suggested with godlike.

I've never unlocked the former two, instead I already have Xan and no matter the difficulty I can't get the rest of them. What should I do?

Anyways, simple fix. If you want Clan Lord then lose to his team the most. You want Malcom then lose to Thundercrash the most.
