Linux Version not rendering properly
Kinda hard to describe, other than the map isn't rendered at most camera angles, only the skybox, characters and items, running the windows version through proton doesn't have this issue, but the horrendous framepacing renders it unplayable for me aswell. For anyone else searching this problem,I fixed it. I just deleted the UT2004.ini file from the .ut2004 folder in home, dunno what I did specifically that caused the problem, but it might have something to do with anisotropic filtering.

On what distributive did you manage to install it?

I installed it on Nobara. The most convenient way is to use Luxtorpeda. The 32 bit version won't start for me. 64 bit version works.

I'm on CachyOS, also using Luxtorpeda, the windows version also works, but the framerate is a stutterfest at times.

If you want to run the windows version, us the OpenGL renderer. It won't stutter but the windows version on Linux takes a huge performance hit, about 50%. I have not tried the D3D8 to D3D9 wrappers.

I use the windows version because the Linux version is missing some of the 3D audio do to the lack of DirectSound.

CORRECTION.

The windows version that I have on Steam takes about a 35% performance hit when run on Linux using the OpenGL renderer.

The 50% hit occurs if using the QoL patch here. https://github.com/aldehir/ut2004-patches

Perhaps there are new optimizations in Proton experimental that Bottle's Soda does not have.

I believe you can install DirectSound to any proton game in Steam using Protontricks. Once you have protontricks installed, just goto terminal and type "protontricks --list" to get all of the games using proton, and find the ID # of the game you want, then type "protontricks <id> dsound" iirc. I usually just install directmusic and get the whole package.
