It is it's own thing, and that's great.
In the end, they're both great games, unlike UT3.
+1 add unreal championship , forgotten title when things got crossed over out of the place. mortal kombat's raiden for instance ...
Every game edition has to be seen as a separate entity. There are similarities and overlaps but UT2004's focus was on new gametypes, vehicles and modding. UT99 was focused on map layouts and AI. I don't see any benefit in ranking one better than the other. Try and enjoy both for what they are. Also try out UT3 - some maps are epic and some mods make UT3 very enjoyable. Personally I think they went crazy with 3D textures and made the whole game look a bit messy. There are some maps that aren't very textured and as a result are great to play.
Uhhh UT99 was modded to hell XD Way more mods for that game. I personally think 2004's main attraction point was onslaught and invassion.
And I've never seen much criticism of UT99 or 2K4
I like all 3, I just like 2K4 the most. I'm sure opinions run the gamut though
Still waiting for the Unreal Championship 2 PC port...
While I've found very few that started with the original UT to find UT2003/2004 "better" it's definitely the most popular game in the series after the original. I love them all. Don't dislike any of them.
