Unreal Tournament 2004

Unreal Tournament 2004

Its coming back..
https://www.epicgames.com/unrealtournament/
Looks nice, plays smooth, and I even remember some of the map layouts even though they are all prettied up now. The one thing I can say I think is missing is the dash jump movement. Anyway, give it a shot its free and I thought it was pretty damn awesome.

Not coming back imho, at least not like back in the day. I took the opportunity to study that latest build in early November on the stream video. Maps are all much too large, not even sci fi themes, poor designs. I'm glad I gave up on it when I did a year ago, they aren't going to hook many players of the first two games. They have also kept the new game in pre-alpha forever. Mediocore attempt after all the years of giving us nothing. Those designers have taken the game so far away from its roots they may as well call it something else besides UT. A better solution would be UT99 redux. Nobody wants to play that stuff they are making now.

I just want ut2004 again, everything these days just seems broken and well not ut2004...

Yeah the new one seems to run worse with each new version for me, and they change everything between new patches, the flak shells and rockets move far too slow in the latest patch. Add the fact they removed music in game it feels bland and sterile. I know it's just nostalgia but 2k4 looks so comfy!

if they made it play just like ut2k4 it would be a good start. gotta have the double jumps boosting dodging.

personally i would miss UT99 bit more than UT2004. or U2 XMP if anyone remember that thing(weird(class-based) mix of UT99, triebes2 and halo over high-res maps).
UT4 alpha was pretty playable last year, but few things, yet.
i like some new maps, with referfences to x-files, another world or even TF2(Mine), not much assault mode content, yet both game and engine advance quite fast in development.

The new UT4 is good and I'm excited for it, and this comes from a hardcore UT99 fan and loyalist. I also liked UT 2004's Onslaught and Invasion RPG games. I've been having a lot of fun playing UT4 and the movement feels pretty good. Yeah, it's not polished and the weapons are still being experimented on and tweaked, but it looks very promising.

Some guys are butt-hurt that the game play isn't an exact replica of UT99 (my desire) or UT 2004. Just ignore them and try it out for yourself since it is free. As far as maps go, as always, that's the last thing to worry about - UT has always been about user-made custom maps and there won't be any shortage of those for UT4. Heck, I've produced 5 CTF maps myself already.
The unfortunate thing though, is that anyone who can't support the 4th Unreal Engine hardware-wise, can't play it, mostly because Epic goes overboard on graphics and system requirements, because that's how marketting works.

I can run the new UT on my flipping tablet from 2013 with a playable FPS. The scalability of the engine is just awesome. It is not how marketing works, it is progression/evolution.

Sorry but if your still using an old toaster for a computer with an old school boobtube monitor you honestly need to get a life outside of playing old school 80s-90s era games. Unreal Engine 4 is absolutely one of the less hardware intensive engines out there when it comes to modern gaming and if you can't run it your using ancient hardware and need to replace it.

Sorry but if I can play Planetside 2, a game easily more hardware-intense than any title on UE4, I think i should be able to play UT4 without overheating. Y'know, since I can play Planetside 2 no problem for hours, yet I play UT4 for maybe an hour and I'm on the verge of overheating, since my computer does so at about 60 degrees.

And I know it's more hardware-intensive, because unless you know of any, there are 0 games where more than 200+ players can be viewed on-screen and only then will my computer MAYBE start to overheat.

Graphics-intensive? Sure, it's probly less straining than most "High Definition" AAA games out there, but CPU-Wise?

Come on. Name any game released 3 years ago and I can probly run it more than UT4.

Also, If you're going to criticize someone for only playing "80s-90s" games, then atleast look at my library and ask yourself. How can that statement even vaguely hold ANY merit at all, when literally 90% of my games were released in the last 5-10 years.

Clearly a troll, since I play this game for hours on end, and it was released... when... 2004?

Also? UT3. I can run that on the lowest of settings and it won't tax my system, but UT4? Yeah, no, overheat city after an hour of play.

And I'm not the kind of person who plays for only about a half hour. When I play a game, I expect to play it for a couple of hours.

Just saying.

Computers don't overheat when the cooling is sufficient and placed correctly. you might want to run a stresstest. I can run the new UT game on my tablet with a low but decent stable fps.I have currently no UT4 engine game installed on my PC, but if you like I can read out cpu temp straight from the mainboard when I run one.

I am getting 100-115fps @1680x1050 in UT4 using a 10 year old Dell with 4GB of RAM, and 7 year old HD5770 1GB videocard.

Exactly you have to be using like super ancient technology or a complete idiot when it comes to computers to not be able to run UT4. I have never seen someone have issues with it except people that use hand me down toaster rigs.
