I am SO SORRY this is a long post. I have been playing Thief 1 and beat it in almost 2 days. Just didnt want to stop playing.
Same with the 80s edition.
So i typed all this in hope devs read this.
I love Thief 1 when i bought it on sale. I almost played straight through it! I was ADDICTED TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really hope the devs read this because of my suggestions for Thief 2.
I am loving Thief 80s - they added more to the environment and made the game little harder, actually a bit more harder.
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIEF 2 ! SUPER EXCITED!!!!!
My only requests to the developers for thief 2:
I POLITELY REQUEST MORE REALISM -----------
- If the police catch we should be sent to jail. Thief 1 and Thief 80s just make you reload last save when busted when in fact we should be sent to jail. How to get us out of jail? Have one of those groups we get reputation for to help out. Right now if I get busted I just reload the checkpoint. THIS OPTION SHOULD BE DISABLED if you get into it with the cops.
- Ability to change clothes if cops are come after you BUT ONLY (ONLY! ONLY!) if you are not within their "blue zone." Plenty of times I just sit around and roll my eyes waiting for the police to go away (who are not even near me).
- The AI seems to be improved compared to 1 but I am sure there is improvements coming. Keep improving the AI.
- An even bigger open world. I would LOVE almost like a city. Thief 80s had such an improvement over thief 1 level design... constantly loading to streets to house streets.
--- I am asking for like a city like environment and very little loading area.
----- Game starts in a rundown area of the town so player gets the basics.
--------As you continue along you go to neighborhoods with mixed level security.
============= Lets add some Distribution centers! You know, the places like walmart where they store all the items until store needs.
- EVEN MORE places to steal from! Lets add some business to rob from, or resturants that have less staffing at night. Heck, lets even had a strip club.
--- Please just driver down American neighboords with stores on them, itll make total sense.
- Add tooltips that when you go to a door and the tool to open the door is red - add a tooltip that says "Use Crowbar (Unlocked after ## mission, or ## level." I have plenty of tools But the ones I really need I have no idea when to even get them.
BIGGEST REQUEST:
- Things sell FOR TOO MUCH! The first thief game I just did the story line because I got to the point money didnt matter. Things need to sell for less OR - upgrades are more expensive.
- The Skill tree is too easy and simple. It needs a lot more options. Ill get through most of the game and I have the tree done. It needs more options. A lot more options. You want enough options that the makes players due extra side quests to get XP to unlock things. When I started Thief 80s - I had like 8 unused skill points in first 30 minutes.
- ADD FUEL to the game. Requiring us to buy fuel for the vehicle, or risk breaking down a chase. More realism.
-------------------------------
OPTIONAL REQUEST:
***Create your own group of thieves with a hideout.****
- How do you find other thief's?
----You walks into them while rubbing some place else. Maybe 2 or 3 others MAX. ---===However you can only send these thieves to locations lower level compared to you.
--- EACH THIEF COMES WITH PROS AND CONS - Maybe like "Has hammer, and DIY lock kit. CONS: tends to be loud, clumsy in the house"
**********They cannot be perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - ------ Maybe they mess up and end in jail. Then the they call some fake hotline # requesting BAIL - and the player is given the option to let them or bail them.
--- Guess what this means? We already have corrupted COPS, time to add corrupted lawyers to get these thieves off the charges.
====Of course lawyers will cost a good amount of money. I think there should be multiple layer options in town to pick from - each with different stats on Cost, Chance of Winning, Etc.]
\----Now heres the catch - the game shouldn't let them all get off. The game should tell the person case to go to jail for ## years. Good bye team member, This when the game starts having new suggestions. Maybe you have high reputation with a group and recommendations, or go by based on finding then during thefts,
-------------------------------------
I am sure there is more. Maybe I will post i the forums a list. I know so many devs dont look at that stuff but who knows.
I am VERY happy I came across these games. They are literately my crack cocaine!!!
Devs: I have a history of testing alpha and beta game development (ones not even released on steam) - if you need help with testing Thief 2 - I would be happy to help out. As you can see I an provide some serious feed back.
Plus I always think its cool when fans of a game like this can exchange ideas since ya know...smaller devs thrive on community support.
I personally see the games' biggest problem both to come down to the fact that stealth simply isnt suspenseful enough. How would that get fixed? Well if I had those answers I'd make my own game but from my armchair I'd say generally improving AI and just tweaking the reactions a little bit would go a long way. Having folks be a LITTLE better about calling the cops, seeking out noises, etc. So on that we definitely agree.
Anyway I wrote a REALLY long reply to OP and decided to edit myself down to this: Theyre both good. Thief sim 1 is a slightly more complete game, is older, generally cheaper, and still has support so if someone were coming into this franchise I'd say go with the orig for now and if you play the crap out of it you'll likely enjoy 80s later when youre done.
I think 80s' polish just gives it the slight edge for me personally. As stated earlier the first ones just a touch more janky. But...it's lovably janky not distractedly so. For me. This ones just got a bit more immersion going for it. Feels slightly more like a living, breathing world with actual characters. Both are quite good :)
It has more content too.
Didn't read the whole novel here, just got far enough to confirm that by Thief 2 you seemed to mean Thief Sim 2 and not Theft 80s (or the real Thief 2, The Metal Age). Wrong forum for this, bud. The devs for this game are not the devs for Thief Sim 2. Discussions for that game are over here.
