Do the Unreal games have a single player?

I'm considering buying this, but so many games list themselves as single player when they really arent.

Yes they do. Unreal & Unreal II have traditional 1 player modes and the rest you compete against bots. They are well worth getting at that price.

Of the other games the "tournament," ones UT99 and UT2004 offer a single player in the sense of an areana combat ladder that you progress up first through Death match/ team deathmatch then CTF, assault, and in the case of UT2004 Bombing run and (I think) vehicle assault. They are quite fun I played UT99 and UT2004 all the way through single player.(and many areana matches off-line versus bots). UT3's single player tries to make a story out of simular porgressive areana matches.

Unreal (Gold) was built as a single player game. And it has one of the best single player campaigns ever (at least in 1998 standards).Make sure that you update the patch and textures and everything, so it looks better than it did in 1998. All of the info is here:

UT99 has a single player mode that's mostly playing "multiplayer" games against bots in a sequential order, and it has a very loose story around it.
Unreal II has a story, but the game itself sucks. Worth playing once though.
UT2k4 is kind of like UT99.
UT3 also has a single player campaign that is, again, just a bunch of "multiplayer" games in sequence. However, there is actually a pretty good story in there that weaves together a lot of random pieces of information from the previous games.

Couldn't (respectfully) disagree more, played through single player at least three times maybe 4, Really enjoyed it, the graphics, different planetary enviroments, just writing this makes me think about breaking it out again.

The first year or two I played only single player. The bots are so extremly strong on Godlike that it will not be boring.

However, I made a mistake playing so long single player since I learned that the skills to win vs Godlike bots did not very much help me against human players.

I would play single player till you know the maps and the different weapons and locations of powerups and weapons and ammo very well, and then swap to multiplayer.

Just one last thing: In UT3 are unfortunately a lot of griefers. Just ignore them, dont let them pull you down. There are also nice player in the game.

I just saw this reply, I wasn't subbed to the thread for some reason. It's almost 2023... no, still haven't played them. Installing 3 now as I'm assuming scum epic will be doing something scummilly epic to this game when they bring it back.
