Trouble Loading Unreal 2
Hey Guys, I just bought and downloaded Unreal 2 on Steam here to start playing as I love the series! For some reason though when I launch the game it gets stuck on the splash screen and never loads the actual game. I can also see in task manager that it's trying to run as well (says it's running Unreal2.exe *32 but 0 CPU usage and holding 54MB in memory). Can anyone help me with this? I really want to get back into playing this game but not sure what to do! Here's what I have....

Windows 7 64 bit
Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H motherboard
Intel i7-4770K CPU, 3.5 GHz
24 MB of RAM
GeForce GTX 670 FTW
ASUS 1920x1080 60HZ HDMI monitor

Any help would be awesome as I've played the original Unreal game with no problems along with other older games. Just not sure why this one is having a hang up. Let me know if you need any other info as well, thanks!

Would anyone be able to help? I tried looking everywhere for this and even tried changing the mouselag setting to false like other discussions have said to do but still not loading.

Hm, nothing changed when I installed those items. I extracted files to system folder for Unreal 2 and made sure the ini file had mouse lage false but it's still getting stuck on the splash screen.

Interesting side note...I'm able to play the demo version of Unreal 2 with no problems. Not sure what the difference is.

Did you tinker with the ini file?

Yeah, I made sure all the commands are exactly as you specified. Still getting hung up on the splash screen. It says it's up to 81MB on task manager now but still no CPU usage. I even tried to copy all the commands the same that are listed in the demo ini and gave me the same hang up. Tried loading the demo again to make sure and the demo still works. Not sure what is going on here.

And now another odd thing, I just tried installing it on my older windows 8 laptop and it loads on there just fine. Somethings gotta be blocking it on this main computer?
GoldKn3cht Sep 5, 2020 @ 12:30am
Did you disable your pagefile. Many programs still need it.
brianwr1 Sep 5, 2020 @ 9:50pm
Hm, disabled the page file in windows, rebooted, and tried loading but still getting hung up.
brianwr1 Sep 5, 2020 @ 10:16pm
Would it matter if it’s installed on a different partition than where windows is on?
GoldKn3cht Sep 5, 2020 @ 11:07pm
No, don't disable it. Some do it because of their RAM size. For whatever reason.
I installed my games on drive D.

Oh, oops. Yeah it wasn’t disabled before but enabled back now. Still nothing. I even copied the ini file exactly from the install on my windows 8 laptop to this windows 7 desktop and the only difference was the splash screen changed to a different picture when trying to run again. I did notice that the game runs with 103MB in ram on the laptop but when I try to run it here, it only gets up to 87MB. If I let it sit, a little more ram will load into memory at a time but CPU is still 0 for it. I’m wondering if that’s the problem? Something is not completely loading to start the game? Both laptop and computer have the same install too. Oh, and it’s installed on my E drive on the computer and the C drive on the laptop.

Try

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
StartupFullscreen=False

Hm, that didn't change anything either. Would something else be keeping it from loading the game into memory? I'm also able to play old Unreal and RTNP with no problems.
