i personally never touched factorio, 'cos it always felt overwhelming for me, but the factory mechanic itself is appealing, so shapez is perfect for a casual like me lol.
it might be not something that you personally would choose over factorio, but it does fill a niche for others

These games are part of the automation genre. But they're all different from each other. Each games has something different to it that makes it fun. That's how genres work
What are people talking about... factorio is but a clone of minecraft (and btw so is base building game). Author just wanted to play with redstone. See what I did here?
