Belt reader orientation
This might be more of a change request than anything. I don't understand why we need to change the orientation of a belt reader. Shouldn't it just read the belt it's on, regardless of the direction?

I was thinking it could just detect what's under it and automatically orient itself.

i think the main reason for this is to deal with the wiring hookups. One side outputs the shape it last read, the other outputs whether it's actively reading items. If it works any direction then the wire hook ups have to be static or would be more difficult to indicate where they are. By having you place it you get clear control and knowledge where the hook ups are

but, also... it it super hard to rotate the thing?

Nothing is "super hard". It's a QoL issue.

As far as the wires go, are you telling me that there are situations where you have a north-pointing belt and you'd want to place the reader pointing west?
