Yea with Steam support, which is garbage and not native. Turn off Steam support in the controller settings.

I'm using a PS5 controller. I had rebind a few buttons so the controls made better sense. To invert controls, use the the steam controller settings before launching the game.

View Controller Settings > Invert Right Stick (its at the very bottom).
