Well, the in-game description says that animals (not sure about bipedal enemies) respawn only when you sleep through the night in a sleeping bag. So perhaps just don't sleep?
Although the amount of enemies does get a bit irritating the further away you go, yeah.
I got hit by the respawns In the second map (i have never slept) but you can make checkpoints at that point so it's not a big deal anymore.
As long as you fight enemies one by one and you bring lotsa food (as the base regens are pitiful|) you should be fine in general.
There's really not much to "explore" on the first map, you just need to clear a path to get "strange light", everything else you might need is going to be available in close proximity to your base.
is that all? because i got tired of fighting the neverending swarm of goblins trying to get to this light source and just gave up fighting them and started running. i lost count after the bear, 30 foxes, 15 boars and 400 goblins.
how the heck is this balanced? healing is very slow, damage output is very low, and there just too damn many things in the way. i dont think i even made it halfway to the quest objective. i feel like im completely missing something. i like the building and resource gathering, but holy crap. the only weapons i have access to are a stone spear, or a mace. and fur armor. not a very good first level of a game, at all
Not sure what weapon you are using but most of the goblins are one-hitters
I could have spent time grinding on the wolves a bit more to get teeth to get the necklace for another +2 attack, but I'd been maxed out my tech tree for probably two hours (out of a 4 hour playtime at that point) and just wanted to get something new done so cooked up a pile of meat and potatoes and ran chugging potions^Wfood.
And there is an /insane/ enemy density at that last point too. I couldn't even chat to the ghost without having to kill things every few seconds since an enemy off screen would suddenly spot me; in the short conversation before teleporting out I killed 4 wolves, 2 bears and at least 3 upgraded goblin things.
Also there's no real crowd control so anytime you're swarmed you have no option but to retreat eating food, and then try to pick them off one by one. The gameplay reminds me of old early-2000's diablo clones like Space Hack ( https://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/space-hack ) where you really only had a single target melee/ranged attack and then maybe something AoE on a long or expensive cooldown.

Anyway, the pattern of the game is we need to grind, either for consumables for replenishing hp/stam, for ammo, and exp, exp starts gaining slow at lv 8 imo.
I just got kabuki mask it boosts movement speed +15%, it helps for making distance for firing arrows, less getting hit to save consumables, but will need lots of arrows, or using melee but then need to heal. Also we will need skill points for accuracy if want to use bow, meaning no points for faster construction/crafting.
Most games nowadays are all about quests, story, because ppl hate grinding because lots of games were so invested by it, but now that most games are the opposite, it's good to go back to basic and play a grindy game, and the grindy part of the game is quite fun and rewarding. I'm not rushing and will slowly building up my stocks for finishing the game.

TL;DR Grinding is part of the game, either for consumables, arrows, skill points, materials, etc. That is actually the gameplay, whatever you do, it will cost you. I'm kinda liking it. Game is small , can practically stay in my ssd forever, restocking grapes in one sitting is ok, or animal foods, or whatever that needs restocking, it's part of the game. I wish there will be more grindy type game like old days mmo, but with fun mechanics even if it's repetitive.
Anyone tried easy difficulty ?
One thing i love about FoN1 is that fighting to get the pieces of force of nature is optional since you can chop and mine your way through to avoid enemies till the clearing where swarm of enemies are.
FoN2 is quite linear where you have to expect every way you go there will be swarms of enemies coming your way. But I do love the additional bombs and magic they added to offset the swarms of enemies.
