when i turn on the grid, i see that the ground is uneven, but when i place 2 floor tiles, they level the ground for me. looks like you've got a bug. maybe try moving the floor 1 cell in either direction?

been working now for really many hours and find that the foundations work not the same, the stone foundation can even lands and link better than the wood foundations can so working with the wood floor is a serious pain.

It does have limits as to how much terrain vertical height difference it can cope with. If the vertical distance you are trying to place the floor is too far above the natural terrain level it will not snap properly. It will terraform the terrain - ie raise it - and allow you to snap to an existing floor up to a certain point and beyond that there is nothing you can really do.

In my game I ended up moving my house around until I found a suitable area that was pretty flat. It lost the plot in one small area as it got bigger and bigger though so it wasn't a total win. So you just need to pick a better spot. Better as in flatter.
I ended up quite a ways away from the start point. The thing is when you use a ghost to send you home it always sends you to that point so you will want a teleport built right there and one at your home sight to save you the run.

Also you can try something else I did. I do not really remember if it helped overmuch but at the time I thought it was, but it's basically a horrid system so don't hate me for suggesting it. If I had a small dip in the terrain that was sucking the floor tile down like the OP complains about I would build a path of floors around in a big loop following the same level that I wanted and come in from the other side. That make sense? It's tedious finding and building a path that snaps to the height you want but it worked for me.

Also something else with building that is easy to miss (I did for ages anyway but that's just me missing the obvious once again.) is that there are other tabs on many build tabs and smelting tabs and other crafting tabs that contain other sizes of what you want to build. Wall corners, shorter fence sections and smelt from scraps or ores for example. This might or might not help you make thing snap. I am unsure.
