Crusaders released first, has a better tutorial campaign (Gerald's) and a lot of Heroes camapigns flesh out what happens in crusaders...... basically they'll make more sense if you've already played crusaders.
Yup, I've played them both on windows 10/11 and steam deck.... all work fine.
I will say that Heroes does have pathing issues in some missions (which the og version didn't have), which can be frustrating but the game can be played from start to finish.
Overall, both fantastic games and something that hasn't really been able to be replicated.
I've just started Heroes and I've come across 3 bugs already. A real shame because Heroes is looking like the better game.
Yeah sadly the port of Hero's has bugs the original didn't but it's a fantastic game
What bugs?
Archers losing commands and standing still when asked to fire (including fire ability etc).
Audio bugs whenever you move a selection in a menu.
There is also a save game issue where you need to delete all save slots every time you open the game before you can save.
Judging by the many other comments and posts in this community there are many more bugs to find.
I've dropped Heroes until they decide to fix it.
The save game bug can be "fixed" by deleting the corrupted ones and then saving in every single slot. Annoying, but just need to do it once.
Haven't ran into the Archer bug and played the campaigns each, multiple times, maybe that got patched?
Audio and pathing issues still persist, although pathing isn't anywhere as bad it was at launch. Each campaign is beatable but some are more frustrating than others. Sadly, none of this will be fixed by the devs as they dropped it a long time ago. Modders created mission skips for those where the pathing is worse than normal, but they can still be beaten by playing.
I have to delete all the save files every time I boot the game. Even after using one of the save slots.
I'm playing on Win11 so maybe that introduces new / slightly different bugs. Either way I saw these bugs repeatedly enough to ruin the experience. I sent an email to the support team and got nothing back.
I don't mind suffering the odd bug, when I completing Crusaders I had a level bug out near the end a couple times and replayed nonetheless. With Heroes I decided to ignore the superficial bugs and even the pathing. However, losing action points telling a unit to perform an action which ended up just leaving them standing there doing nothing was the straw that broke the camels back. It wasn't an isolated case either. This is a fundamental requirement to enjoy and play the game. If I was having this much trouble playing the game 3 missions in, it isn't worth the hassle.
The game is not in a good state based on my experience and looking through the community forums I'm not alone. The state of the game is not acceptable for sale in my opinion.
Yeah, you have save in every single available slot to fix it, I had the same issue. I basically ended up with 99 Ellen campaign saves and whenever I replay the game I just overwrite them. Haven't had the issue since.
Eh fair enough, haven't really had those issues apart from pathing and played the game multiple times. Yeah, I agree, it's not acceptable but it's all we have. The game can be beaten, just can be frustrating.
