Perma-Death vs Saving
Like the game. Perma-death, no save not so much. I'm cruising along handling enemies OK, learning as I go. Then a "powerful enemy" tears me a new one 40 minutes in. I will buy if a save function is implemented, thanks.

I quickly learned that you cant take every fight, sometimes you need to run and prep for the fight.

Saves will make this game terrible. all the risk and fears for the character’s life will disappear, because you know that you can always boot up and try again.

I think the game is wonderful, i will buy it day one, but i read that the creator is already going to implant some kind of saving system during release; maybe like at the end of each floor or something. I do not think having some kind of saving system is bad, it just need to be not too common.

It seems likely that the game will use a “save on rest” system. Right now if a character has a dream catcher when they die, they wake up at the last resting place. The implication being that their death was simply a bad dream that they wake up from. It’s an elegant solution that I think works really well.

There are plenty of ways to customize the experience within that framework. The current demo has a generous amount if dream catchers available. However, finding the first one can be challenging when first learning. Easy mode could allow a dream catcher to be found in the first room, for example. This at least teaches new players that they exist.

For players that do not like iron man mode, there could be a toggle in the options to turn off the need for dream catchers, allowing unlimited revivals.

For players that want a hardcore experience, the number of available dream catchers can be reduced or eliminated.

I’m really looking forward to the Halloween update to see what they have store.

I would love to be able to save on exit for sure. I don't like games that hold me hostage. Hopefully, when they implement the save system, this will be an option. Otherwise, I love this game. The demo is amazing! I will buy on first day.

Similar to comments above, like the demo, but dislike not being able to save on exit, and also I am getting tired of beginning to progress and then repeatedly being ambushed, by the same 'big' monster that I cannot get away from and rips me to shreds. As the saying goes, once is unique, twice a coincidence, but three times is a pattern.

Also, whilst I find the original lamp, I have never been able to find a second lamp, which again is becoming tiresome.

Personally speaking, this game has potential. Also, it will be interesting to see how this game develops, and whether it realises that potential. Which in turn will determine whether I chose to purchase.

i have found a total of three lamps within 10 or so rooms on the first level... not including the one on the floor where you start... you have to look everywhere, in everything.... i found them in unlocked and locked chests, desks, bureau (clothes hanging closet) laying on the floor... mind you, i found these BEFORE i found the one laying on the floor at the first room... just, dont give up, they exist!

Thanks for the reply, but to be honest after four games in a row of being ambushed by the same large mob that I cannot evade, inflicts debilitating wounds, and shreds me, I lost interest.

if they added a checkpoint that worked like a save zone, (like a bedroom) thatd be the best bet for player that want to log out and go do whatever irl. i know what you mean tho the game feels great as is, i just like spending my time in the dungeon and seeing how many nights i can last which can get time consuming.

i would totally support a save at last rest type thing at the very most, anything else invites save scumming
RoosterSuplex Nov 14, 2023 @ 8:35pm
They'd have to randomly generate the dungeon layout (monsters, loot etc.) still somehow after each load and delete the save on a death, and somehow prevent people from quitting when they get agro from a stronger monster (like losing their save if they quit in combat.)

I wonder if the save system will be akin to fear and hunger, in that you can only save at certain locations and it isn't that easy to do consistently (to avoid save scumming fights maybe)

It is a good game with much of potential, but too punishing. Introducing additional mode, where you will be able to save somehow somewhere is a good step toward selling potential. Keep one mode for masochists with appropriate achievements. Never got that item and don't know how it works. I have played this game demo quite long ago. Sometimes your time is too precious to run through 300 monsters to learn how to overcome that 301st.
