Spark in the Dark

Spark in the Dark

It's a great game, but...
This is a great game. I like playing Thief.

However, Where the heck do the darn Niss keep coming from. At first I thought they where climbing up out of the grated in tunnels, but they pop up even when there is no tunnel, or even a crack in the floor.

The chance of hitting an undead with the duel wield daggers is maybe 30% at best after you land the initial hit. 50/50 occasionally; by which I mean only one dagger ever lands a hit when you try for continued attack. You literally need to take passes at them to take them out.

I have not been able to get across the cobwebbed gap to get the sphere sitting on the ledge by the light. There is no proper jump, as far as I can see, and trying for the rolling dodge to cross the gap just ends with you falling into the hole. If anyone knows where the sweet spot is for this maneuver, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Having a Save point while you are in the safe rooms would make this game way more enjoyable to play. The amount of frustration that is felt every time you are nearly to a certain point, and a darn Niss pops up and kills you, or you try and try again to get that sphere on the ledge and have to start all the way back at the beginning again because you've fallen in a hole and died is almost painful.

One of the books talks about a map. I think it's a map of the dungeon. Is there any chance this map will be find-able in game; Maybe in pieces scattered throughout the dungeon?

Is there really going to be no way back once you move on to a lower dungeon level?

I don't know what the big guy is called, I have yet to kill him, but I tried to attack him once and I did not land one hit. I don't know if this is like when attacking undead and just not having a very high hit chance or if this is a bug. Maybe the not being able to his the undead is a bug to.

Had a 2h run, everything went great... tryed to get the Orb, died falling... i feel you bro!
The Big Ones are killable, problem with Daggers is, that you have to get very very close... not a great feeling with that circle swing that cut`s your Health in half

The game has no "hit chance". You just didn't land the attack.

It's possible that the game is making it hard for you, since the hitboxes of some weapons don't seem to be too sharp. But you will always land the attack if you are in the right position.

The niss are dificult, but you can usually hear them when they are close. Always try to bait their combo so you have more time to attack them.

As far as i know, there is no way to go over the cobweb gap. It's just a death trap.

All right, after the first complete run i can say that there is a way to get the Orb. I got to the other side, passing the library and was able to jump over from that side and collect the Orb.

As a matter of fact, the game HAS a hit chance, which depends on perception. On top of that, every enemy has a chance to dodge! That dodge has no visual effect.

@ the_keeper In Half, Try an inch from death, lol.

@ Kitto Hit Chance or not actually being in the game, and if not this is so much worse, when you are right up in an undead's face, and not a hit is landed, there is seriously something wrong with the fighting mechanics here.

I can kill the Niss with little problem usually. it's when they jump out at you from nowhere right after taking out three spiders and are already half dead that I have issues with them. I have even taken two out at once and lived to tell the tale. That was in the prison cells, I was after the one that is always in the bone pit there, and another one snuck up on me from behind.

Thief starts out with a higher perception. I can't imagine my perception is too low to hit the super slow moving dumb dumbs (AKA undead)

Did you go diagonal across the gap or right against the wall?

I got across that gap the first try no problem ran into some issues on the other side noped out and then tried returning over the gap and fell through. super frustrating to say the least, specially being my first death and not knowing death was permanent kinda sucked.

Would be nice if there was an actual jump.

Not being able to get out of lockpick/prybar action when something comes up behind you while opening something is also getting old.
I have had similar issues with taking a potion and having something jump out at me just as I have taken it. By the time the take potion action is over you're dead.

I found for the thief that if I switched to a single handed axe that I did much better then just using dangers. I can still attach from behind. Longer reach it seams and better damage. Also poisoning the weapon helps.
