yup, wow this is the kind of game you buy out of desperation for a new deckbuilder because you played all the others but soon realise that it is just SO GOOD. The translation is good, the artstyle music and dialogue is good, the combat system is freakin awesome with a unique touch on the regular slay the spire formula. To me it is on par with great games like breach wanderers slay the spire and whatnot. You will not regret your purchase.

2 problem I had with this game:

First, the game developer is very lazy. Below is how he or she solves tech issue.

EA 1.01 bug fix

.....Quote: Important: for those bug to work, please delete the following file in your computer\Users\user name\AppData\LocalLow\senmu\Three kingdom game. Unquote

First not everyone is technical enough to find this file. Second this is not the right way to solve tech issue in a game. I will not recommend people to buy at this moment.

Second, the general cards are very weak in design, either over point or the growth over time is not really worth it. Just need to get a weapon and armor option is better than any general cards.
Take example: Guan Yu, 3 point to use...+1 permenant attack to HIS card only when he killed a enemy. But there are many cards that increase OVERALL attack which cost lesser points. By the 10 rounds, it is useless as there are many cards option. In fact, Guan Yu card is a handicap to your deck LMAO in the start. You don't need to overkill the enemy. Same apply to Zhan Fei, useless card. These 2 cards needs to be redesign.

Having finished my first run victorious, and having read the beautiful "Thank you for playing my game!" from the individual developer, I finally want to return: Thank you for having created this game! It is one of the most satisfying deckbuilding experiences I enjoyed, with different strategies that can be used within the runs. I want to point out some things I really love in "Three Kingdoms: The Journey":

+ Cards are many, and they contain individual attacks of the "generals" as well as "army cards" which conjure cavalry, archers, and infantry that you created your deck with. The army changes and develops, and that's an approach to the card game genre that is completely new to me, although it is based on the well-known card battlers. I love it!

+ Graphics are aesthetic and let me feel the ancient chinese realm in a beautiful way. The animations, too, are great: When you conjure your calavry, for example, they appear and rush to the enemy. Cool!

+ There's a lot of replayability, thanks to a high amount of unlocks: new generals with individual armies and skills, equipment (that changes the game significantly), and some random encounters. Being able to follow different strategies is part of the replayability, too: You can, for example, choose to conquer as much cities as possible, or shooting ranges, or army camps. If you conquer an amount of the same type, you'll get bonusses, and the choice of the places to conquer matches the way you play. Hihgliy intelligent gameplay indeed!

Overall, I can only recommend "Three Kingdoms" to the fullest! I enjoyed and will continue to enjoy in future runs!

Overall this game is a recommend with caveats.

The core mechanics are very solid. The cards have good variety and potential synergies, with plenty of things that start useless but can become incredibly powerful with proper investment. The map gives enough options to spice things up and make strategy important but never so much that it's overwhelming. Enemies are varied, buffs and debuffs are well thought out. The translation is serviceable, if a bit overly flowery.

Some things could use rebalancing. Just from what I observed on my first successful run using the least complicated faction:

The basic horse equipment is largely worthless because of how little it gives you until near max level, while the basic armor equipment is god-tier throughout the game because it applies before shields.

The reward I got for beating the first boss the first time was a choice between a pack of half a dozen cards that were almost all detrimental, a minor HP buff and cost reduction for 3 cards, and 100g + becoming able to skip taking new cards in a deckbuilder where the standard stage reward is 10g and selling cards requires both entering a market node and spending ever increasing amounts of money.

Infantry and cavalry focused decks have hard counters early on (enemies can be immune to infantry damage or force you to burn cavalry you use against them) but the closest equivalent for archers just halves their damage...while doubling cavalry damage, and there's another status that does the exact opposite.

There are some glaring UI issues. The UI usually looks good and works well but when it breaks it breaks hard:

If you ever collect more than 3-4 generals in a run then the only way to see all of them is to use the up and down arrow keys - the scroll wheel works but is positively glacial. But in other places like the card selling menu, the arrow keys don't work at all and you have to use the scroll wheel, which is faster but still takes too long if you have too many cards - which you will, because why else would you be in that menu?

Some enemies stack absurd levels of buffs and debuffs, which is fun except that if they have too many the descriptions go off the screen and become unreadable. There is a late-game enemy that appears to stack every buff and debuff in the game, so this isn't exactly a fluke occurrence.

The hitboxes for the boss stages on the map don't match the artwork, probably because they're larger than every other object on the map. Not a huge problem, but it gets annoying when you're doing this 1-3 times a run.

If none of that sounds like a dealbreaker to you, then by all means try this game out. You may be pleasantly surprised.

There is a good game hidden in here, but there are some bugs, a lack of a proper tutorial, and some obtuse mechanics that prevent this from being truly great. Once you do understand everything, the game can be quite fun. Each of the three generals offer a unique playstyle that you can play around with and enhance with specific cards and strategies, as well as supplemental generals. Definitely needs polish, so maybe wait for a sale, but there is a good game here.

It's a fun deckbuilding game. If you like deckbuilders, you will like this. This is a must play especially if you're a fan of the Three Kingdoms era. My only complaint is that the game only goes to the battle with Dong Zhuo. I thought it would at least go to the battle of Chi Bi. It's kinda short. A lot of unlockables but a bit on the short side. The translations are also a little rough.

Overall, it's a fun deckbuilder and worth its asking price.

This is not a bad game I do think some of the cards could do with a rework and some more heroes of the the three kingdoms era would be nice

I enjoy this game play a lot. The faction balance seems to be a bit unbalanced given the "Sun" faction seems most clunky of them all.... Perhaps more of a tutorial on the faction uniqueness would be helpful to newer players. Good setting, animations are a bit confusing can't tell if that is their intended art style or just were short on time for some of the characters. But the actual combat animations, most of them are good. I did find some minor spelling mistakes which is a shame for a $13 game. If developers keep updating the game, definitely worth to play. I will still continue to play this game, just likely not the "Sun" combo faction until it is fixed or explained better.
