Have to sim games in career mode?

I just started a career the other day and created my character who is progressing very nicely. I won all my games when I’m able to control my team but other times it doesn’t give me any option at all to play as my team but only gives me the option to sim the game. One thing I’ve noticed is it says something like your guy is not in the lineup when my only option is to sim the game. I want my guy always in the lineup. What gives?

In player career mode the manager decides when you play.

That sucks since they’re not even fairly done. I lost two sims 3-0 and 2-0 despite outscoring my opponents between 2-5 goals per match otherwise.

Start in a small Club where the players have 80 stats max. Then u wil always play as long your fitness is ok. When your player reach 85 or something like that, go to a bigger club and you are always in the lineup.
