What's the point of buying FIFA on Steam when it still requires the Origin client?
We know EA is bringing some of their game titles to steam just like how Ubisoft do with their games.

"Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required."

But as we can see just like with Ubisoft games requiring the Uplay client to also run in the background. We can see the same happening with FIFA 21 here on Steam. With multiple clients running in the background, if one of those clients crashes or suck RAM it can potentially lag or crash your game or disconnect you from the online servers.

I don't see any point whatsoever in buying the game on Steam if it will require the Origin client to also run in the background!

Personally I would only buy it on Origin unless the Steam version was an independent client used to play the game only. Just like with NBA 2K series, it doesn't require another 3rd party client, it only requires Steam.

But with this game, all EA are doing is satisfying their sale boost, but it offers no advantages or benefits whatsoever to the actual player. You might argue you can have your steam friends being aware that you've got FIFA. But the truth is, you can add the game as a non-steam title and still invite your friends to it!

Not to mention achievements is another thing that I don't see EA Sports incorporating over to Steam. You still need Origin. I think many people will be cheated and won't read the yellow alerts to the right side of the steam store page to let them know that this will require Origin client running in the background as well.

Possible, but that's not the only reason as EA has brought all their other games to steam as well that do sell well. A lot of people hate Origin and like Steam better, sure. But it is extremely deceiving to release the game on Steam while the Origin client is still running in the background! That means another 200Mb of extra RAM running in the background!

Yes, nowadays RAM is not an issue anymore. But it can still be an issue for someone that passes the bare minimum 8GB RAM for example.

If I do buy FIFA 21, I will buy an Origin key instead. I will not buy it for Steam.

Also @ Allez Paris I see you already per-ordered the game for Steam doesn't seem rational anyway, given the fact that you don't even know how good the game will be. If the game turns out disastrous you will have lost your money.

To be honest with you, the gameplay will more or less will be the same as fifa 20 just some new tweak to the gameplay and AI. I pre ordered it cuz for the new update in career mode and well i am a chelsea fan. This year roaster is a must buy for me tho. Btw i dun play proclub, player career, and that ultimate team. Solely career mode( which can at least give me 70 hours of gameplay till i bored) plus occasional volta. My fifa 20 origin stated that i played 105 hours lol. I guess (85 hours on career mode and remaining on woman international team, kick off and volta)

This is the most accurate answer to this kind of question lmao, even though i kinda regret pre ordered the game early in august when the trailer drops (blinded because packed toty messi in fut20) and after i pre ordered it the game turns to ♥♥♥♥♥ with random disconnects here and there (FIFA Server always turns to ♥♥♥♥ when its the end of the game cycle) + the cheater in pc player base that likes to exploit the disconnect glitch.

But back to the topic, the reason i pre ordered the game on steam is solely because i like running fifa with steam overlay (for flexing, chatting with friends on steam, discussion forum, screenshot, and the playtime is recorded nicely in steam), before fifa is in steam i always add non steam game method to get fifa running with steam overlay but it was buggy as hell and i dont like it. Im a fifa player on origin since fifa 15 days, and i must say getting fifa official support on steam is great like a dream come true, and i like it still needs origin actually, because i fear if the game is splitted between steam and origin version it might be erase all my club progress from previous fifa, and the loyalty reward might not carried over to the fifa 21.

So thats my point of view from the guy who play fifa on origin regularly.

Notes: i think the ram usage is not a problem for fifa as long as you set up your steam and origin background download properly, i always run steam and origin when the windows start and got no issues like ctd, or anything. Since fifa dosent use much ram usage in the first place.

the main reason i bought on steam because they dont have a lot of payment options on origin. Payment methods available to me are there only on steam so i literally cannot buy on origin.

Also in my country, the game is more expensive on origin by like 18%.

I understand you, but ive can’t put my controller in some way with Origin. But here in steam they say “Controller” so Can you use controller on steam?

If i can’t i don’t Think im gonna buy it. Because i can’t find a way to use controller on Origin. So im scared it would be the same.

Anybody who has a method?
