Black screen on new game and inescapable settings [SOLVED]

EDIT: The fix is to disable steam cloud save, and delete the massive monster folder in your user app data folder. Then restart game

I'm on Windows 10, and all my drivers are up to date.

When I start a new game, it shows the beginning text about the one who waits and the crown on two brows. After it loads, a black screen appears, with a darker black bar at the bottom, and what looks like maybe a wind gust animation that occasionally appears over it. At this point, it sounds like I am able to move the character when i use my controller. But obviously, I cant see anything, so that's when I quit out with Alt-F4.

When I go in to the settings, a lot of the text is messed up. It looks like the coding from the game files instead of the words describing the options.

After I am in the settings menu, I can't exit. It looks like it reverts to keyboard controls, even though I'm using a controller, but neither the keyboard, nor the controller will allow me to exit the menu. The only thing I can do is Alt-F4.

That guide will only ever help those experiencing a black screen after the logo, and after receiving the red crown. Nothing else.

How peculiar, I'm struggling here. The error log isn't giving me much to go off.

Try playing till the black screen occurs, and then give me the end of your Player.log PKUltra.

So I may of found something that may be useful. Worked for me. So my theory is the "save" the game made initially was corrupted and steam cloud kept bringing it back on new installs so I had to disable cloud, delete the save files and Cloud file and reinstall.

Deleting the massive monster folder and then disabling steam cloud under the game properties did the trick. I was able to play the game for a few minutes before I got to the first teleporter and the game froze on the screen where it tallies all your gold and kills. I'll have to try again later
