It actually works pretty well, I got into the game thanks to my EX in fact through the Steam Play Together feature. Decided to buy the game soon after the break up.

Only the host needs to own the game and do the following:
1. Start a Save *After reaching your cult site for the first time*
2. Open the main menu
3. Start Co-op with button.
4. Invite Steam Friend.
5. Choose who will be what "Lamb or Goat"
6. Enjoy

If looking for people to play it with, you'd probably just need to make a post here.. OR through some other steam friend related groups, or Reddit.

There is no server browser, but considering the fact that each player has to stay in the same screen space, it would be difficult to have more than 2 players...
Unless some mad man could end up making a mod to remove that limitation, allowing players to move fully independently and do things as individual.

My bad forgot a step so I will say the proper steps here:

0. Make sure you are logged into steam.
1. Open the game
2. Load the Save, past the initial tutorial *Get to your cult site*
3. Open pause menu. *Where you see the "Add Co-Op Player"*
4. Open Steam Overlay
5. Click the remote play button *To the right of the Friends button at the bottom of the screen. Icon of a Controller with a signal under it*
6. Choose either the "Invite a Friend" or "Invite a Guest" options.
Choosing the later would generate a link to join your save
7. Choose input assignments *Keyboard/Mouse or Controller*
8. Go back to the game's pause menu
9. Click add co-op player and summon the goat.

If struggling with the text steps above, I would suggest also watching a lovely tutorial I found by "Chupacabra Tutorials"
on youtube.

Thanks for the kind words, appreciated. Thankfully it was a mutual break up.
