How exactly do damned followers work?

As far as I thought, generating 3 sin TOTAL on a follower would damn them no matter how long in between sin, but it turns out that's not the case and if you wait some days, they'll be fine to generate more sin, so how exactly does it work?

I can't speak for just how many days exactly you have to wait, but you are right, 3 sins will damn them, but after some time, it does go away. I'll probably test around a little bit just to see how many days you need to wait.

i have only seen a follower be dammed by the ritual, but that probably means they lose dammed status over time or whatever happens
