[Spoilers] Where exactly did the crowns come from?

Something that's not really explained is what exactly is the origin of the crowns the bishops wear.
It's implied that they're the source of their power as the lamb gains the powers of a bishop when given the red crown.
it's also implied that they're living creatures as they have a moving eye and have tentacles that are ingrained into shamra's brain.

However outside of this, they haven't explained where the crowns came from. They don't seem to be tied to the lands as the red crown doesn't have specific connections to any of the lands but rather only to satanic circles, and other characters have similar crowns but aren't drawn to anywhere specifically, nor is it implied where anyone got them.

They carry specific powers that all but leshy seem to utilize, and they likely found the crowns and used them to create the religion of old faith.

I know this is an insignificant part of the game but lore wise I think is the most important since a lot of the story is centered around them.
