Fishing is currently just bugged. The way the code works is:
- Look at every programmed fish type in the game, in turn
- For every fish type, generate a random number between 0 and 1
- If the number is below the fish type's programmed probability, return that fish type
- Otherwise, keep looking
The problem with this algorithm is that it is biased towards fish types ahead of the list. This means that if you have e.g. in order, squid -> swordfish -> octopus -> lobster, each with a 10% probability, the actual probabilities are going to be 10%, 9%, 8.1%, and 7.29%. It keeps getting worse the longer the list is.
Explains why I am on Day 97 and still got no Lobster. Bad luck on top of bad code
You're doing it wrong
Hope this helps
