How would you rank the weapons?
For me:

5) Dagger. Absolute doodoo. Practically no advantage gained from the attack speed.

Edit: I actually now see some advantages of the Dagger. It's pretty good with crits and curse-reliant builds, because you can generate Fervor much faster vs. bosses. Still janky to use most of the time, but not always totally useless.

4) Gauntlets. Although the range on the 3rd hit is nice, it's risky to activate. I think if you get used to them they might be better than the Sword. I'll usually pick them over the Sword if I get the attack speed tarot.

Edit: I still rate the Gauntlets pretty low, but after discovering the roll trick (doing first couple attacks from a safe distance and rolling to reposition your third attack) I can see some utility for them. This is tricky to do at first, but once you master that they become a good option for no-hit runs (with Golden Fleece) as you can hit enemies safely.

3) Sword. Lower DPS, but the Sword's hitbox seems better to me. Sword is pretty safe so I'd rank it in the middle.

2) Axe. You don't notice the attack speed drop and it does more damage so, yeah.

1) Hammer. This is going to be controversial. One tap is all you need. It's not slow enough to get you hit by enemies because it has the highest range and AoE. Roll, whack, roll, whack. Combined with Golden Fleece it can one shot everything. I'll take the Hammer every time I see it.

Edit: I no longer rate the Hammer above the Axe for a couple of reasons. It's definitely the best for the no-hit achievements when combined with Golden Fleece. However, it struggles against groups of smaller enemies, and is not as safe to generate the initial dmg %. It is also one of the worst picks vs. the final boss due to the lack of Golden Fleece scaling.

Note: Upon 100%ing the game (never switching from Very Hard) I added some additional opinions. I will leave my initial Tier List as it is, but I actually think the weapons are more closely balanced than I initially thought.

I want to 100% this game but the hammer and dagger make me hate doing dungeon runs. I really dislike that you could get a necro dagger that takes six hits to kill even the weakest enemy and has a proc that does nothing. Or you can get a godly axe that will just straight out one shot everything with like one stack on your fleece. Your either get a total POS useless weapon or an extremely overpowered weapon and there is no middle ground.

I agree. The weapon effects are also quite unbalanced. I'd say smth like...
Godly > Poison = Crit >>>>> Vampiric = Necro = Zealous

Godly is obv the best. Poison is nice for hit and run. Dmg from Crit can be nice. The other three are just bad. Vampiric can be totally useless but I guess has its uses if you play a tankier build. Zealot useless by the time you get it. The damage from Necro just sucks.

I wish you had slightly more control over the weapons and the tarots were more diverse to encourage different playstyles. Most tarots are garbage and 90% of the time you just want the good tarots (attack speed, dmg, the projectile, poison) rather than some gimmicky one. Having the pool diluted by some crappy options is okay, but there's not much in terms of diversity.

There is so much potential being missed that would add to the game. The effects could also effect the stats.

E.g. Lightning Weapon, on-hit chain lightning and faster attack speed. So it would synergise well with Dagger.
Burning Weapon, more damage, causes burn on effect which does stackable, fast DoT but enemies do more damage.
Freezing Weapon, slower attack speed but AoE freeze on hit.
The Necro effect could be a lot more interesting.
Maybe Zealous could smite enemies on 3rd attack or smth while still providing Fervor.

So much potential squandered on the effects.
Yeah, honestly if you could just pick tarots and weapon this game would have builds. Its really the roguelite element that is holding it back imo. Necro straight up needs to be reworked into something not bad and zealous should just stop dropping after you unlock better stuff. loot pools is just too big atm. Adding in some good element stuff like you say that actually uses fast attack speed would be awesome too. Even just letting poison stack could be good.
Maybe they could make post game building like a soul forge. You sacrifice a follower to get the spell or weapon you want for your next run. I reckon it would be pretty cool addition to the village. Stronger follower opens up better weapons or something.

Once you unlock all the varieties of weapons, you might find the godly dagger to be the best weapon in the game.

5. Gauntlets. I just beat the game, and i only ever used the gauntlets once near the beginning, and it was terrible.
4. Sword. It isn't bad ... just has to be ranked next to the awful Gauntlets.
3. Axes. High damage, high enough speed.
2. Hammer. Lots of damage, but slow speed leaves you open to attack
1. Dagger ... but only because of how broken the godly dagger is. without it, you could probably switch out Axes with this spot and vice versa.

its fun how different the opinions are

hammer just oneshots everything for me same like axe plus axe has alot of range.

after that comes gauntlets and sword for me

i hate dagger

i think atm with golden fleece which is highly overpowered the slow high dmg weapons like hammer axe and gauntlets just do yo much dmg with it that a weapon ranking is very hard imo

For me I hate the hammer... I just don't like the feel of the weapon... Since i have slow reaction speed in general. I try to replace the weapon as soon as possible when i can.

Claws tend to have the same distance as the hammer in general so it is also a weapon i don't like but if it replaces the hammer I'll take it over that.

Dagger is too low damage for me. Sure it is fast but that's all that it has going for it. Though combined with the poison on hit ability does make the dagger not as bad.

Swords are slower and more manageable but it is a boring weapon.

Axe is more my cup of tea... It does a large chunk of damage and means you have to hit less and more controllable where you hit as it has a good arc too.

Combined with the golden fleece and a potential godly weapon... That just is a disgustingly broken combination... Throw in Poison weapons... and a potential wave of ghostly apparitions in the mix from a curse... Then you have the perfect run that it hard to lose.

In the end I'd wish that there were more attack combos instead. So having heavy attacks and normal attacks... Which would be like dynasty warriors in how to do combos. But that's just a dream.

Opinions seem over the show. It seems Golden fleece users love the hammer. I probably game too tipsy for the golden fleece, as the balanced default fleece just seems the best option to me.

So for me the (5) Hammer is the worst find as it slows the run down too much. Harvesting precious grass. and stuff.

The (1) sword would rate the highest for me as the quick attacks just maws through everything quickly and staggers smaller mobs out of their attacks

The other 3 are solid finds with a drawback compared to the sword
(2) Dagger looses reach, but attack speed makes for quick and constant damage

the last 2 both just loose attack speed compared to the sword.
(3) The claws probably inches ahead of the (4) axe due to the finisher being something worth landing, making it a little more fun

I was dreading the hammer based on everything I heard about it... but no, it's not that bad. It's kind of a pain in the ass if you're breaking props to get grass and rocks and such, sure. But it requires timing and it rewards punishing enemies more than almost any other weapon in terms of sheer damage.

dagger would go from F tier to A tier if they removed knockback from it.

I like that proposed change, it makes sense. The dagger should be high risk, high-reward. Not "same as every other weapon, ultimately lower reward".

5) Gauntlets/Claws
- Unreliable low damage as getting the combo is very situational
4) Dagger
- Great for shredding low hp enemies
3) Hammer
- If you have good timing this pounds most groups of enemies
2) Axe
- Easy mode for groups of enemies
1) Sword
- Get your timing right (or just swing away) and you can break enemy attacks easily
- Coupled with the good attack rate and reasonable damage make this is dream
