How would you rank the weapons?
For me:

5) Dagger. Absolute doodoo. Practically no advantage gained from the attack speed.

Edit: I actually now see some advantages of the Dagger. It's pretty good with crits and curse-reliant builds, because you can generate Fervor much faster vs. bosses. Still janky to use most of the time, but not always totally useless.

4) Gauntlets. Although the range on the 3rd hit is nice, it's risky to activate. I think if you get used to them they might be better than the Sword. I'll usually pick them over the Sword if I get the attack speed tarot.

Edit: I still rate the Gauntlets pretty low, but after discovering the roll trick (doing first couple attacks from a safe distance and rolling to reposition your third attack) I can see some utility for them. This is tricky to do at first, but once you master that they become a good option for no-hit runs (with Golden Fleece) as you can hit enemies safely.

3) Sword. Lower DPS, but the Sword's hitbox seems better to me. Sword is pretty safe so I'd rank it in the middle.

2) Axe. You don't notice the attack speed drop and it does more damage so, yeah.

1) Hammer. This is going to be controversial. One tap is all you need. It's not slow enough to get you hit by enemies because it has the highest range and AoE. Roll, whack, roll, whack. Combined with Golden Fleece it can one shot everything. I'll take the Hammer every time I see it.

Edit: I no longer rate the Hammer above the Axe for a couple of reasons. It's definitely the best for the no-hit achievements when combined with Golden Fleece. However, it struggles against groups of smaller enemies, and is not as safe to generate the initial dmg %. It is also one of the worst picks vs. the final boss due to the lack of Golden Fleece scaling.

Note: Upon 100%ing the game (never switching from Very Hard) I added some additional opinions. I will leave my initial Tier List as it is, but I actually think the weapons are more closely balanced than I initially thought.

probably the exact reverse to you.

5)hammer - to slow
4)axe - to slow unless you get attk speed card
3) sword - medium ground
2) gauntlets - good damage if you get the 3rd hit off and decent speed
1) dagger - zoom around the map doing a stabby stab.

i've learned that for the dagger you can't combo it too far because attack 5 or something the "finisher" has too long of a recovery time and will mess you up, so just tap the dagger and it's pretty good.

for me it really depends.

if the hammer one shots most enemies then it pretty good. if it does 95% i'd swap it for anything in a heartbeat, so it's either a 1 or a 5

i put sword probably as my highest, it's the most consistent

dagger would be behind it after i learned it's combo creates problems

then axe, if it can 2 hit it's pretty good, the combo sucks

the gauntlets are all over the place for me. if you get to the finisher it has much higher damage than it's usual and it's aoe is much than anything else as far as i can tell. it's great for breaking environmentals to quickly farm and is good at dealing with mobs. HOWEVER, it has a weird hitbox and i think it's the only weapon that can miss an enemy in your space or just slightly behind you when you swing.

5 - Dagger
(no real DPS, specially against bosses you're doing for the 2nd time)
4 - Gauntlets
(the 3rd hit is very nice but feels clunky / hard to get off)
3 - Sword
(all around nice, a good middle ground)
2 - Hammer
(very very nice to use, but certain enemies are too difficult to comfortably hit)
1 - Axe
(higher damage than sword, lower than hammer, but no real impact from supposed lower attackspeed, feels more consistent than hammer and like a straight upgrade from the sword.

1- Sword. Its always dependable.
2- Axe. Hit and roll like a maniac works well.
3- Dagger. Very low damage but might work depending on weapon and cards
4- Hammer. Depends on what map you are at imo. First 2 maps are more suited because enemies are slower.
5- Claw. I reset my runs if i get this weapon. All versions of it sucks ass.

Yeah this is another reason the dagger is doodoo. The multiple stab animation on hit 4 or 5 is too long. You rarely want to attack multiple times anyway, it's so much safer to just roll, hit, roll. So dagger literally just loses damage (for me).

This is the problem with the Gauntlets too; it's dangerous to get off that 3rd attack. If you get some attack speed you can hang back and kill the enemies from range though. I don't usually get in enemies fave to do the full combo due to the clunkiness you mentioned.

I haven't played 4th map yet but 3rd seems okay so far. I might change my opinion later. What I will say is the Hammer is super bad vs those owls that spit flies. It has its weaknesses for sure. I probably would put Axe over on second thought and I might underrate the Sword.

Dagger is defo the worst by a large margin imo... The damage is absolutely terrible and if you don't get something like a crit card then your run is really gonna struggle and it doesn't matter where the run is.

You've gotta get super close and it's fast attack speed is negated in the fact you are probably gonna have to dodge out after a couple of hits anyway which do less damage than one swing of an axe (which can also hit multiple enemies much easier).

Dagger/Gauntlet: Garbage
Sword: meh
Hammer/Axe: God tier, just dodge and push button to kill, many mob is 1 hit kill. If you are good at dodging use the fleece with the increasing attack

Dagger is top-notch in Golden Fleece runs and overall pretty decent.

Sword is a Comfort weapon.

Axe is okay-ish (completely slaps with Rainbow Attack Speed tho)

Gauntlets are meh

Hammer is bad

My 2 Cents on this Topic.

5 Hammer: too slow for my taste
4 Gauntlets: you'll want to commit for the full combo, which also takes time
3 Dagger: doesn't feel like it has weight or range
2 Axe: is good
1 Sword: well balanced, not too slow, with good damage

5. Hammer. I see how it could be good, but I just don't care for the play style of it.

4.Gauntlets with attack speed are fantastic but without they aren't great

3. Daggers. Too situational to be better, plus the knockback in the game on small enemies sucks with daggers

2. Sword. Just a good well rounded weapon, kinda boring.

1. Axe is just better sword, doesn't really have any downsides
Yerm Aug 14, 2022 @ 1:30am
1. Axe - faster than a hammer but same idea

2. Hammer Doesn't work in all rooms but if it did itd be better than Axe

3. Sword not interesting when I get but not moaning

4. Dagger meh not great for bosses nice in regular rooms

5. Gauntlets :repoop:
Curse Aug 14, 2022 @ 1:31am
1. Hammer - High damage scales great with crit %
2. Axe - Strong overall decent speed
3. Gauntlets - Good damage with the 3rd strike, but need to commit to the combo
4. Sword - Decent overall but nothing standout
5. Dagger - Without specific builds can be pretty bad

I've had one good run with merciless daggers and the crit % card. Attack damage + Speed with the ranged bonus attack made it pretty good, but that combo would be better on a higher base damage weapon anyways.

👍 Sword, axe, gauntlets (they are all basically the same to me, just fine for killing whatever
👎Hammer, dagger (hammer too slow, dagger too short range)

The difficult ratings are the curses imo (spells)

Yeah, curses are tricky. The straight shot tentacles and homing missiles are pretty good, and freeze is very powerful on curses. The invincibility (it seems to be rarer) combined with hammer is crazy.
