There is no reason not to chop all the trees and use all the resources the game gives you to your advantage as soon as your able to. I happened to make beds and other random stuff. You're pointing out details. but my point still stands. There's no reason to lock the player out of leaving the base until they do the ritual
Stop being argumentative for no reason
if any other game, had an issue like that. People would be complaining about it left and right. But it seems like when a game becomes a 'cult following' no pun intended, people will excuse and defend every bad design flaw in the name of protecting the game. On the one hand, I see why as indie games live or die based on fan popularity, unlike Triple AAA games who have the budget and resources to advertise themselves more.
At the same time, if an issue like this exists, it should be fixed. Any game that has a Sim building section, is giving the Player full control to build and expand their area to their hearts content. Potentially soft locking the Player until more wood sprouts, because of something unrelated they force you to do as part of the tutorial, is pretty stupid. Especially since the majority of games will outright prevent you from wasting all resources, if they KNOW you need them for something else.
Regardless, of Player Skill level, a tutorial should teach the player, not punish them; that's what the game itself is for, if you play poorly. If you need wood to perform the ritual, but used it to build other stuff, the game should not be built in such a way that it locks you off for arbitrary amounts of time. If anything, it should only allow you to build what you need, until you've finished the Tutorial, and then say "Try experimenting on your own." so you now know, you can mess around and do what you want.
I will fix your save file and send the broken save to a developer, we are looking for this issue to correct it so people stop getting softlocked!

I swear it's not a lie lool, maybe this is some reassurance. I hang out on the Massive Monster Discord and do directly talk to devs to report bugs. There isn't anything sensitive in your save file unless you are a Twitch Streamer but I'm not going to do anything malicious with your streaming keys. These save files are just decrypted/fixed and your broken save file is sent directly to the dev so they can fix it in the game.
I did have this issue originally. But i just kept spamming days and got past eventually, im well past this point now. if i know of anyone else who has the issue ill send them your way
I did ask the dev to vouch for me but they're not currently online! They usually get online in a few hours though.
I don't think this is a true softlock because it can be played out unless someone gets bored and wants to send me a save where the game actually ends before the trees regrow.
I recommend turning down your difficulty to easy if you are locked in at this part, it makes your followers live longer with slower hunger decay and can help with dealing with this issue temporarily until your trees regrow! It's not a huge loss to lose a few followers while waiting and you should be able to survive it no matter how bad things are.
Thanks for reporting the issue though! I'm still interested if anyone manages to find a save that does end before the trees regrow. <3
