How to get the snail follower?

So, one of the achievements of the game is unlocked when we collect all the followers forms. But one of them, the snail, is only aquired by offering 5 snail shells to the snail statues located on some of the areas of the "world map", like Ratau's home.

Reading on the internet, some websites say that to get snail shells we have to fight the secret Snail boss merchant. But here's the problem: If you attack the giant snail a few times the small bug at it's side become aggressive and attack you. When you defeat him, he will be frightened of you permanetly, and will reward you with a construction. After that, everytime I find the snail merchant again I can't trigger the fight anymore, and attacking the snail don't do anything.

So, anyone knows how do we get the 5 snail shells?

Attacking the snail merchant has nothing to do with it despite that one site saying so. I'm not sure how I got my snail shells, unfortunately, but all you have to do is bring the shells to each statue. And then you'll get the follower form. I never fought the merchant and I got the snail form.

Yeah, I thought those sites were misleading how to get it. I have seen everything on the game, but could not find any snail shell until now.
All I need to "platinum" the game is to get the snail folloower, sacrifice a few more followers and defeat Shamura without damage. But still couldn't find those shells.

Ok, I guess I finally found it. It appears I have to kill snails that appear only in Darkwood. I've seen them before, but is has been a long time since I've found one. But, now I have a path to try.

Well, I know how to get shells now. But I just done like 20 runs in a row and couldn't find a single snail. I don't know if they're suposed to be this rare to find. I found 2 when I started to play the game. But just those 2 and no shells from them either.
