How prevalent is the base building?
I don't like base building or management games, and I understand this game has aspects of it. But I believe it's just setting up the town and managing your followers. Am I right about that? How prevalent is it, can it just be ignored or do you need to engage with the systems? I presume base building and followers are the form of permanent upgrades in this game.

In the beginning you have to manage the base itself, as building things, cleaning up after the followers, cooking for them, take care of the farm plots, inspire them, hold rituals. I think if you know what you do, midgame it won't be much hassle, as the followers themaself can take over most of the work (cleaning, farming, cooking (you just have to queue the food)).
Even in my first save, i can leave them for a 20 minute run in the dungeon, and the won't starve, get sick, or dissent.
In my main save I run around today for a bit in the base, but had nothing to do, as nearly everything is done by the followers themselfs.

We're working on ways to make the cult more self sufficient, which should hopefully make your experience better if you prefer not to cult manage as much too!
