Did I break the Sozo quest?

Hey guys, so I was feeding Sozo some sin and he was damned. I found him in Anura and dealt with him hoping he would drop his mushroom and he didn't! (Not that anywhere said he would)

So this is where I'm stuck because I'm unsure how to get him back. I know everyone says use the resurrection ritual but I did not take that! Have I just locked myself out of finishing his quest now? Is there another way to bring him back I have not unlocked yet? I've only just beaten all 4 of the homies and still have things to do story wise, and I still have quite a bit of sin milestones in the temple to reach.

okay so, keep going along with the story, soon, you will unlock forgotten commandments stones which you can use to get extra riturals, including the resurrection one, simply continue to move along with the story, and wait until the forgotten commandment stones appear, i do not wish to spoil too much, but just know that if you continue on your path, you will be able to unlock the ritual and revive sozo!

I thought when you beat dammed followers that they just go back to your cult alive?
