Fleece of the Berserker

I saw a few old posts about this fleece, mentioning how it's possible to avoid its downside by using the spirit heart demon.

When I began a run with said demon, I didn't get any spirit hearts, but I continued playing anyways.

I found a tarot card that gave a +20% chance of obtaining a spirit heart after killing an enemy, which worked and I began accumulating lots of health, but upon reaching the boss, all of my spirit hearts got instantly removed, leaving me again at half heart hp.

Is this a bug or was the fleece nerfed?

This USED to be the case, until the patched it, as you technically aren't allowed to have extra hearts on that fleece, so they removed the means of that. Turning on infinite health though will allow you to get hit and not die, despite it's only half a heart.

What you found are not spirit hearts, but the blue ones.
They vanish if you change "map pieces". Spirit hearts are the red ones with a golden line around them. Last time I played that fleece it stayed there for the whole crusade.
