Follower level cap
Personally, not a fan. I get limiting demon levels and such because late game they can get OP but now it feels pointless interacting with level 10 followers, would love if they soft capped demons and such but still allowed us to level followers past 10, it was fun seeing the numbers go up

Yeah, I wanted to get them all to take an L
This is the only change in the update I don't really like or understand, as I don't think it quite makes sense given it's not a multiplayer competitive game with metas and balance changes required, but also considering "unlimited health/fervour" toggle settings exist, I really don't understand this.

The ONLY thing that would make sense is if someone has a cult where they don't have the resurrect ritual and level up followers through mostly screaming, and they need to level up and sacrifice a high level follower for Kallamar/Shamura in Act II.

At least they didn't de-level already high level followers. I better make sure I never delete my save.

God yeah unless they revert it or increase cap I'd rather keep my old saves now, I was considering deleting for more space but it's not worth it anymore.

Is it really that big of a deal?
What was the benefit (beside overpowered demons) having like 60 level follower or something?

Asking cause legit my highest lvl follower was like 14-16 (too lazy to constantly Bless/Inspire 20-30 followers) so i wouldn't know.

Probably nothing BUT the demons... which this just reminds me of when the Golden Fleece was getting its tweeks, people argued that it "wasn't OP because it was skill rewarding to have 2000% damage" if there's videos like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjDPcqWf5Ko&pp=ygUXY3VsdCBvZiB0aGUgbGFtYiBmbGVlY2U%3D on YouTube that are ONLY showing one specific Fleece the vast majority of the time or the community themselves even states "X is the goto" there's going to be attention drawn to it both from other players and from the developers, especially when the Golden Fleece was as powerful as it was because one can make the argument of "where does it stop being skill when you can just one tap everything and are just using something like a crutch" which is how a few items are coded to noob trap people into using in other games like League of Legends having an item that gives you a whole lot of bonuses yet when you start getting good with said item after a while it will immediately kill you.
There's no point to super high follower levels. You can only pray and slave so hard. And if they just die like they will normally, it's a waste to put all that investment into 1 follower. If you're trying to stack levels on someone immortal or keep resurrecting them it's approaching exploit levels.

I still had a holdover level 36 from my old file I loaded up after the update hit, and this guy was so busted. He gave +22 temporary life. I facerolled myself through those crusades. Can't have that kind of stuff back.

If you want follower level go up it's going to be confusing for people that actually think it does something past level 10. Forget about this, the change was for the best.

Completely disagree. To a degree, I feel like it's part of progression. If it wasn't, I don't think the Immortal trait would exist at all. If demons were the problem, the solution would be to cap how powerful they are, not to remove any reason to interact with your followers once they're maxed. And, hell, progression to the point of being broken is pretty fun! But that's a different discussion.
I think that the idea that high level followers are so oppressively broken as demons is redundant considering 1. It's an optional thing to have demons along, 2. Unlimited health/fervour toggles exist, 3. It takes away from the idea of growing and getting stronger. You put the time and faith into those followers, you should be rewarded.

If demons are supposedly too powerful, then I feel like the tradeoff for using them should be made higher so that it's not just a free buff with no downside to it, because a lot of things seem to have an upside/downside (minus the pink fleece, that's literally a direct upgrade, I don't care how many hearts you don't get out of chests), like make the follower become damned on a 50% chance, or maybe make them have a chance to get sick, or hungry, because the follower needing sleep is no punishment at all.

I'm under the assumption that needing to sacrifice a high level follower to Kallamar and Shamura in Act II is "a" potential reason for this to be added, but I honestly feel like level 10 is way too low.

Also, followers should still retain their level number after being disciples. Got a level 29 follower as a disciple, all I see is a halo.

Its kind of disappointing but at least they let you keep the ones already past 10, my the one who waits is lvl 24
Finvaara Jan 21, 2024 @ 8:37pm
I have a core group of followers who have been eternally resurrected. It's nice to get them golden skull necklaces and save myself a ton of effort, but I do regret that Pebre will forever be level 39
fromage_enrage Jan 22, 2024 @ 2:34am
Wait, followers did not have a level cap before? I've barely gotten past level V or VI with them lol, they just kept dying
Finvaara Jan 22, 2024 @ 5:58am
If you kept bringing your favorites back, they could keep leveling up. If you got some of the necklaces to slow the aging process it got even easier.

I think a fair compromise would be cap normal followers at 10 but allow special followers (the bishops etc.) to go as high as possible. They were gods after all, and it gives an incentive to keep them around.
