I know the game recommends a controller, but it's like they didn't even attempt to make the kb+m option good. It took me less than 30 mins of playing to figure out why it's bad.
You're suggestion to make the aiming be mouse only is 100% the route they should have gone although I'd prefer dodging to still be keyboard only so I don't have to flick my mouse all over the place to dodge.
It's weird because Enter the Gungeon has almost the exact same gameplay, but they didn't mess up the controls for kb+m players. Having your aiming be both the wasd AND mouse at the same time is insanity and you'd be hard pressed to find many people say it's a good design. It's hilariously bad when trying to use the hammer.
Hopefully they patch it to work differently because the game is pretty good, but it would be so much better if they limited attack aiming to mouse only.
I dont have any problems using keyb+mouse with redefined keybinds (and i dont think ANYONE have any problems). Something must be going on in your end.
You guys need to play more videogames, really. There is nothing wrong at all with the keyb+mouse system that its in place now. Or the aiming system. The character aims where the cursor is. And this is basically the system ALL games use, when it comes to keyb+mouse.
But i would like to see how people using gamepads are doing it cuz it must be even worst. The game recommends a controller that doesnt mean a controller is better. It is just the devs dont have experience playing games with keyb+mouse, thats all. They think a gamepad is better... well, experienced keby+mouse players know better.
1. Grab the hammer weapon
2. Stand still while aiming your mouse cursor to the right. Hammer hits in mouse location no problem.
3. Do step 2, but spam wasd. Watch as the hammer targeting reticule teleports with each keypress instantly.
4. Do step 3, but now hold the (A) direction key and keep your mouse on the right. The game overrides your mouse input and attacks to your left. You have to move your mouse again for the game to register your mouse input and only then does it work how it should. For the hammer it's not as bad since you have a lot of time to re-target, but all the other weapons attacks are instant so they miss.
That's what wrong with the kb+m system. Your wasd keys and mouse targeting fight against each other. It happens with every weapon, but it's easier to showcase with the hammer. If you attack in one direction, but hold your movement in a different direction to prepare a dodge your attack now swings in the wrong direction you intended.
Controllers don't have this problem because they separated the aiming and moving to the different sticks. For some reason they linked them with a kb+m.
As far as I'm aware no keybinding will fix this issue. If you found a way to fix it with keybindings I'd love for you to share.
I asked about your keybinds that you use where you don't see this problem, but your answer is vague. You mention the numeric pad so I'm assuming you rebound your movement to the number pad. Are you left handed by chance? Or do you have one of those separate plug in number pad devices? Sorry not relevant to the issue I just find it interesting how other people set up their controls.
My keyboard isn't the issue (Logitec G105) and I've never had this problem with other games.
What key would one remap to fix this? There is no keybinding for aiming that why I asked you about your remapping solution.
If my directions to replicate the issue aren't clear let me know and I'll try to clarify.
If you do a search on this forum you will see lots of people with complaints about the kb+m controls even listing the specific hammer interactions I mentioned. If you don't have this problem then great, but it doesn't mean others don't have a problem.
The new patch is coming per their announcement so maybe it will get changed.
If one plays any action rpg with a functioning dodge roll button, the dodge roll is tied to mouse placement not wsad input. So I can be pressing D, going right and heavy attacking, then swing my mouse to the left of my character while still pressing D moving right, and my character will dodge backwards towards the mouse if the dodge key is pressed.
When I played prior, my character would dodge towards the Right regardless of my mouse placement because I was holding the D key.
It's been a minute since I played, so they may have updated the game with an option for mouse oriented dodging.
Nah, i get it now. The issue was that i dont use the hammer, almost ever. And its the only weapon that has the reticule to aim so i was confused. I dont think i experienced this bug using daggers, or many other weapons or maybe i didnt see it? but yup. Yesterday doing tests with the hammer i experimented what you say.
If i move my character continuosly to the left and i tray to aim right, the character is going to hit to the left. Hope the devs fix this soon. Using keyb+mouse (that is the best controller that there is) in this game is a must. So is a problem of the game itself. What i dont understand is how it is possible that this bug hasnt been reported??
