Perma-Death Door sacrifice
Did the devs see people trying to play "nice" and decided to prank them by making them horribly and permanently murder their followers to finish the new content?

For a game where you can resurrect everyone who dies and even choose to avoid sacrifice, having to brutally and permanently kill a follower just to progress in the game is weird. It's like they are trying to punish players for not playing the game in the way they wanted.

I wanna see the personification of the devs in the game pop up and say,
"You think you can be GOOD?!? This is EVIL GOD LAMB GAME FOOLISH PEASANT-GAMER HOW DARE THEE TRY TO PLAY IN YOUR OWN WAY OR INTERPRET THE LORE IN YOUR OWN WAY. MY GAME IS NOW SUPER POPULAR, AND I CAN NOW UPDATE IT AS I PLEASE, CAUSE YOU'LL ALL PLAY IT ANYWAY. MWAHAHAHA"
That would be hilarious.

Anyway, I'm sure the reason is "balancing" or something.

Let me know below what species or form you think the devs would be in this game.

A STRANGE GAME.
THE ONLY WINNING MOVE IS
NOT TO PLAY.
HOW ABOUT A NICE GAME OF CHESS?

If they didn't get permanently sacrificed, you could just use the same follower for each door and keep resurrecting them. Each door is supposed to be more difficult to open than the last.

I didn't even realize you couldn't rez the door sacrifices.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's pissed by this. Was so over the moon about the new content and right now I'm considering not playing on...

It's not even the first permadeath mechanic introduced though - Midas and Fox questlines from base game come to mind. Yes, those are optional compared to these sacrifices being needed for all of the postgame content, but as Xelane said, if there wasn't a permadeath, you would only need a single decent level follower to open the doors, which makes little sense from a balance perspective.
I dunno, perhaps a pacifist option in settings or other workaround would be nice, but I understand the reasoning for it being how it is
Yeah did kind of suck when I used a level 10 on a 4 door to find out they were perma dead. XD

I mean, by this point in the game you should have a bunch of high level followers (dead ones especially that could be resurrected). If they have a necklace, kill and loot their corpse to get it and sacrifice them anyway.

The one that hurts the most is the level 10, but i have + 10 followers that are really high level and giving them skull necklaces makes sure they gain a high enough level.

Thank you for the information that sacrificing the followers to the doors is necessary to proceed, while being unable to resurrect them. I suppose I've finished the game, then. It was starting to feel too grindy anyway.

Though, I could level up and sacrifice the Bishops. Then again, they are followers now, thus, it wouldn't fit the story.

It does seem weird that the game allows you to be a loving and merciful cult leader, even to the point of giving you special dialogue for beating the game with 0 sacrifices, and then immediately afterwards goes, "Right, you want to keep playing? Kill 3 of your friends and they better be close friends."

Agreed. ♥♥♥♥ move.

I do Sacrifice ♥♥♥♥-eaters, so I guess that's an option...

I would wager that's not much different, because followers will ask to be sacrificed and a loving cult leader would want to fulfilled such requests, after all they're volunteering at that point, no blood on your hands.

I'm not sure I'd agree that sacrificing someone is morally correct just because they asked for it, but that's an ethical question.

Sending someone to be eaten by a door isn't the same thing, in any case, and it would be pretty annoying to have to wait for three high-level followers to specifically request sacrifice so you can play the game. By the time I'd beaten the game only one of my followers had ever made that request.
