That said, hammers are usually my last choice for a weapon.
It is way too slow and has a very janky hitbox i can't hit my targets most of the time even when they are in front of me and within the target reticle.
I stopped ever using the Hammer heavy attack because of this and i just spam the primary. And yea shielded enemies are a pain if you have a Hammer.
It really needs some tweaking.
EDIT:
Like how about heavy attack sending some shock wave in front of you somewhat similar to Dagger's heavy attack but wider and shorter.
Or just adjust it so it's a proper 360 windmill attack.
These days I purely just run for dagger, sword and gauntlets. Also it feels really weird how they split the heavy attack (used to be the hold down button, same for regular attacks) from the regular attack button (and I still for some reason cannot bind heavy attack to right trigger, only left trigger, LB/RB).
I wish hammer had a swing like the other weapons, instead of the jarring "commit to action" style attack, when you're in a room filled with enemies on the move constantly, as well as projectiles, that committing to the hammer swing feels like punishment for using the weapon in general.
Also yeah, shielded enemies+hammer= tedious nightmare.
I too would vouch for the hammer heavy attack sending a shockwave. Heck I'd love for the hand gauntlet heavy attack to also have a slightly wider swing curve. The heavy attacks for most weapons in general kind of feel hamstrung along, and don't really offer much to spice things up, not nearly as much as the new relics (I've found the relics to be both game changer and life savers).
I've seen them actually try to avoid my most of the time lol. Makes having to chase them down just to slam them with a heavy attack as being tedious.
