but I don't have body pits unlocked yet as I haven't seen it as a priority so far. am I supposed to bury the skull in a body pit, or is there a different type of grave I need to use?

I am also worried it will disappear when I logout, or leave the area for too long. hence why I am a bit more anxious to do anything else other than sit at the settlement until I make enough devotion for body pits.

You need to bury it in a body pit, yeah. I also got it before I had body pits unlocked and waited until I could build one before leaving the cult, for the same concerns you mention.

It is a body pit, but you should be able to unlock more than one skull as I've seen a few players been able to!

If you’re seeing this again, I would like to ask another question while I have you here: is there any type of way, albeit an actual in-game method or mod, to eliminate certain dead cult members from showing up in the resurrection ritual list?

I’m starting to become a bit hesitant hiring new followers because my list is starting to get incredibly long already, and so far I’ve been unable to find any methods to my problem. Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure about mods, but afaik there isn't a way to eliminate certain members from showing up 🤔
