You need seed storage bins; manure storage bins; and the farms themselves as well as the farm plots.
Each plot goes through several stages:
- firstly you plant something.
- then water it
- then give it manure.
- lastly harvest it.
The upgraded farm automates more of the process - earlier on I’m afraid you have to do it.
Getting manure is quite tricky. Clearly your followers will drop some (or use a toilet preferably!) but often not enough to keep your crops fertilised.
There is a grass to compost converter (sorry can’t remember it’s name).
Lastly there is the natural burial process which converts bodies to manure. I recommend you have both in order to have plenty of ways to generate manure.
You will also find some in dungeons if you are lucky!
I suspect your followers are being unhelpful because you are missing or have not yet unlocked some of those components - and early on I’m afraid you do some of that yourself.
Thanks for the info, though. I look forward to the glorious future when my farmers actually farm, and the leader of their religion isn't literally picking their ♥♥♥♥ up off the ground.
But the game literally does specify what the building does tough.
Yeah, I realized that the next time I booted up the game. Specifically says "will water".
But now my people have randomly started actually planting.
Was the seed bin empty before? Otherwise it could have been bugged. There was a bug where followers would just stop recognizing a building(farm, seed bin, ect) existed and refuse to work at it. I thought they fixed it but it's possible it was that bug, restarting usually does fix it.
Nah, it was full. But even now it seems like even though my farmers are actually farming, they're the ones most likely to just randomly stop working and go elsewhere. It's honestly the only thing in the game I've had trouble with, and I'm playing on hard.
