It was very useful until The One Who Waits offers to buy things from you. Then I easily had 1000+ gold and collecting 5-10 was a bit pointless :)

Or you can just use extortion once... or just a single dungeon run will give you enough money. Tax collector is a gimmick without much use... which is like with the half of cult upgrades.

Loyalty enforcer ain't better, the amount it gives is equal to a kiss or a head pat if the follower is a doggie.

Money really stops being a problem if you invest in many Tabernaculums and always pick the Shrine upgrade whenever you reach higher cult tier, as well as hand pick few followers to always pray. The faster you complete whole tier tree the better really though it's still good to get some basic necessity upgrades that go far along the way like Janitor Station, Outhouses etc.
