Lost 2 hearts

I had 4 red hearts, but now there are only two left. Perhaps it happened after one of the rituals, but I'm not sure. How to restore the number of hearts?

Have you got the glass cannon fleece equipped? It reduces your hearts by half.

Changing the difficulty changes the amount of hearts you have, too. So if you changed the difficulty, that might've been the cause.

But doing that requires opening the settings menu first, unless OP acted completely subconscious they should have noticed they opened the settings menu and switched from Normal to Very Hard.

Eh it happens. Would've noticed that they put on the glass cannon fleece too. Tends to be harder to pin it on the action if you don't start a run immediately after.

It's why I bring up subconscious, people space and blank things out ALL the time, there's been times I've done exactly that both in and out of video games and I can tell you from personal experience, it's NEVER obvious when it happens because you'll never be aware you're even doing it until someone snaps you out of your stupor.

It worked!
It happened twice. The first time I restarted the game, because thought it was a bug.
I didn't change the settings myself.

I will certainly back this up. I think there is a bug here. Like no really, I get that people are stupid and do stupid things but you guys shouldn't just assume something is perfect because you think it is.
Long story short, I am playing on normal. But only have two hearts available to me for whatever reason that I can't explain.
Sorta like the stupid controller bug. My inputs are real weird sometimes. Specifically the triggers get stuck ON sometimes.
This isn't a bug free perfect product and you guys shouldn't be so harsh on people.

I noticed some rooms in dungeons have debuff that removes 1 of your heart in exchange for a tarrot card or diseased heart. Maybe that's it?

And this persist for the rest of the run .. It even showed reduced hearts when i finished the dungeon and was in my cult site (but it seemed to be just visual cause when i entered the dungeon again hearts were back to normal)

I'm starting to have this issue as well. It seemed to happen after I defeated Leshy, and then when I went back to Darkwoods, my hearts are back down to 2 instead of 4. It is really nerfing me and making the game much harder than I would like it.

Edit: I just noticed that I somehow changed my difficulty settings and that is why I lost hearts and all the enemies were tougher...I must have done that when ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with the other settings...so nevermind I'm just dumb.

Glad others have brought this up. I definitely did not knowingly change settings but for the past couple days it's been frustrating to play because I'm down to two hearts and getting my @ss kicked despite being 3/4 through the game. I'll check difficulty settings next time I play, didn't even think to check that and it's really starting to sour my enjoyment. I have been playing and having fun at medium/normal difficulty.

Edit: it was the settings! I'm frustrated because I did not change these myself and almost quit playing- they were switched to VERY HARD from medium difficulty. Two days of irritation, a couple followers lost, one request failed, and coin spent on tarot cards trying to rebalance. 17 hours in. Wth.
