Whats happening with the game?

I've not played the game very much, but i'm curious why its still in early access when the update log says it was gonna be fully released 2 years ago. -thanks for any replies.

I think by time there's an update I'll have a beard that's so long that it drags on the ground
while shuffling along with a walker saying hu sonny, what was that. speak up.
