Why is there NO OXYGEN?!!!
How is it possible the tank is completely full of water when I arrive, but ZERO oxygen? And even though the damned thing is receiving full power all day long, with NOBODY inside the hab, oxygen never accumulates? This is driving me insane. :steamfacepalm: WHAT ARE THE RULES?!

The hab must be powered and the CO2 scrubber set up before it will build up Oxygen.

I'm well aware of that. The hab IS powered with two batteries in series, providing 35 kw and the sabatier has 12 kw. The oxygen scrubber is on, and oxygen is SLOWLY building up. VERY SLOWLY. As in, three days have gone by and I still have only about a third of what should be there.

you're breathing about 12L/h oxygen, scrubber is producing about that much depending on how you set it and the sabatier is producing 10L/h when powered

the hab has around 1862L volume so you see, slow to fill ;)

fastest way to fill it is with plants, each produce 3.12L/h (once they reach the plant stage, nothing when seedlings)

if you've gone through a sandstorm, check for leaks too as those deplete o2 pretty fast

Thanks for the numbers. That should help.

I have a really hard time getting plants to survive the dust storm. I always mysteriously run out of power halfway through the night, even though the batteries are more than adequate to get through the night when there isn't a dust storm. That kills my plants and I have to start over.

the well is receiving 5 kw from the solar panel. it requires 10 to produce oxygen. once its set up then you need to calibrate the scrubber. you need to turn knobs and levers until the scrubber produce as much pressure, as little heat and using the power your power grid can afford.
SheoGorath Nov 14, 2020 @ 12:20am
once you do that you'll notice a little green arrow on external atmosphere indicating the air pressure is increasing and the bar will slowly go up
SheoGorath Nov 14, 2020 @ 12:21am
off course when the scrubber's pressure is set then remember to turn it on :)

I do see the green arrow (which turns to a down arrow, if I stay there too long). But I no idea what to do with the levers. I know I can make the heat go up or down, and supposedly it will blow up, if the heat is too high, but I'm not convinced that happens. Whether those levers affect air input, I haven't been able to tell.

it usually does that if you don't have enough power.

i made this post to explain how scrubber works:

if you're not convinced, go above 100° and turn it on to see what happens ;)

to survive the dust storm you should design your batteries to supply your hab for 3 days, and ofc the solar panels to recharge those asap once the storm is over
if your batteries go out at night, maybe you're not recharging them enoguh during the day? you need to feed them at least twice the power required by the hab (since it's 12h night 12h day)

Thanks. But what I mean is, even after the hab can go all night without losing power, when the dust storm hits, I lose power VERY quickly -- within just a few hours. But I certainly haven't managed to keep power on for three days yet.
SheoGorath Nov 16, 2020 @ 12:40am
that's the point of the dust storms. solar can't work in them so you rely on batteries. you should also set the output of you batteries so they match the consumption of your base including charging your buggy and no more. technically if they output all the power they took in they could never charge. up
SheoGorath Nov 16, 2020 @ 12:42am
also you need more than one addition batery. i build three and a medium solar panel. i swtiched out one of the ssmall solar panels with a medium one and used the small one to charge the battery of the buggy. also as soon as you have the parts, build and fit the well upgrade
wyrdplace Nov 16, 2020 @ 1:59am
There isn't time to build much, though. I build a couple of batteries -- one for the sabatier and one more for the base. I can get them all charging. But I don't have time to get a stable power output until just before the storm hits, and there seems to be no point in planting anything until the power is stable, because it just withers.
SheoGorath Nov 16, 2020 @ 12:54pm
i don't think you can get a stable output really, other than to replace smaller solar panels with medium ones and i haven't found enough silicon to replace more than one, so you get as stable as you can and hope your plants survive. i've beaten it twice now, so it is possible.
