Also what poor sales? A game with almost zero budget doesn't need to sell 2 million copies to make a profit.
Clarification: No one can guarantee there will be another patch or what it will/won't fix but at this point there is no indication that the game has been abandoned and some indication that it hasn't.
By the sound of it you need to get that common sense examined because it seems to very verrrry biased.
Personally, after playing both characters I see no more reason to play this other than when you want to revisit it. That being said, those who beat the game will hardly keep playing it.
Maybe they'll be more players when there's a sale?
We (the public) did not forced them to release the game in such a state with such a price tag so the fault is entirely theirs..
Just like some people have pointed out, this is a Single Player game, it's also a niche product. While there's praise for both the original and the remake, it will always keep a rather low profile. Unlike later entries of Resident Evil, neither the original nor the remake are games for the casual gamer.
These are simple facts. Technical issues aside (which I have not experienced but I didn't start playing until after the latest patch has come out) the remake is well made for what it is.
I already did everything that you can do with it.
It's up to the devs to keep the alive now, put some effort to post launch support and add more replayability or something.
Look at The Sinking City, we though it was a flop but the devs kept on workng on the game with bug fixes, DLC etc and now it has a sequel announced against all odds.
People notice when a dev cares about their games, word of mouth is a great tool but if you don't do anything, nothing is gonna happen.
