Is each characters play-through different?
The game tells you that there are certain collectables that only one or the other character can collect - but aside from that does the story differ much?

I guess my question is this: Is there much of a good reason or need to play through as each character or once you finish the game as one you are pretty much done?

I'm only part way through on the 2nd character, but I don't think the main story changes much. Main events seem to happen in the same order, but some of the people are in different places, so you meet them at different times and the cut scenes play out differently.

Remember that one of the memories you enter is your characters , so obviously that part should be very different between them.

Each character has one or two levels of their own in chapter 4, which also contain exclusive collectibles.. Aside from that, what differs is the cutscenes and how people react to your character, as well as the endings. There two endings per character + a fifth separate ending.

Fantastic. Thanks for the confirmation!

Although the chapters tend to play out the same for either character, except for a part that's unique to each, I'm glad that I decided to do a second play through because the cut-scenes are different for both. So far I'm finding that I like Emily's play through better as well, because of her cut-scenes.

Yeah i was hoping it would be a familiar experience for the second play through so you can go through it at a much faster pace but with a few narrative differences.

I just finished the game with Carnby and I loved it: classic AITD gameplay with story, puzzles and a lot of exploration. Many different places and a lot of fun.

I've started a second playthrough with Emily activating the Devs comments which is very interesting.
Both characters play out exactly the same from what I've seen so far: Same custscenes (only swapping one character for another), same puzzles and even same starting points, which was quite disappointing, to be honest.

In other AITD games like AITD IV both characters had totally different paths, different starting points, puzzles, etc. They still shared the same world, obviously, but it was a totally different experience. Judging from what I've seen so far it doesn't seem this will be the case this time.

Still recommended, I really enjoyed the game, you don't get many adeventures like this these days when 99% of games are action games with no puzzles or story but it would have been nice to make both characters more different.

i think it's very much worth it to play both. the npcs react differently, there are a few different areas and storylines and it makes the story more complete.

Both providing a different perspective and different areas or puzzles.
I'll still play through as a second character but i think once i finish the main game i'll leave it for a while then revisit at a later date to do so.

I played the second time with the detective (after a full Emily playthrough) and until chapter three there are only the cinematics different - everything else is just the same waste of time.

Cutscenes are different, some of them happen in completely different rooms, Emily and Edward both have their own unique secret endings to unlock, ect. They also each get a unique level in Chapter 4. There are also one or two side puzzles that can only be completed by either Edward or Emily. In total there are 5 endings to unlock. Edward and Emily both have a variation on the canon ending as well as both having their own secret ending as mentioned, and then there is a "wtf" ending that both of them can get.

Thanks for elaborating.
This is actually more than i understood there to be.

Perhaps i'll just roll right into a second playthrough.

Regardless i've really enjoyed the game.

Wait a min.. they have some difference in a chapter only?

I thought each character had their own story and playthrough. I mean different paths and situations. Do you replay the same scenes, scenarios, puzzles with just a different character then? That sucks.. This game is very short already... Every character had to have its own story with some intersection here and there, what's the point to play it twice if you are going to know already what happens in 90% of the second playtrough?

60 bucks man...
