Not every game has to be 20+ hours, I rather have an amazing 5 hour experience than a game that's stretched to 20 hours that's forgotten the following day

And I got 5 extremely forgettable hours

i mean what did you genuinely expect from a visual novel? 5 hours is a pretty typical length for a visual novel like this

you can argue about the game's quality all you want but I don't like the idea that games NEED to be a certain length to justify their dev cycle, price, etc.

Half-Life 1 was made in 2 years and almost certainly cost less to develop given it didn't have government funding. Charging 30 bucks for a game that took 5 years to make, had government funding and barely lasts 5 hours is absurd.

Your comparing apples to oranges, also the dev of Half-Life 1 in 90s didn't have Covid19 which slowed a lot games being developed and released and also Half Life is not visual novel. Also it's a visual novel so 5 to 6 hours depending on your pace is plenty for a Indie VN, which is great if i want try a new playthrough with alternative choices. Also the directors didn't want to crunch the devs just rush out a product. If want comparison of a game which had long development time but is only 10 hours for main story only would be Freedom Planet 2 and that game was meant to come out in 2017, it didn't come until 2022, likely due to Covid restrictions and still not finished with it due other commitments, I waited years for game to come out. I'm just glad those games are released and not cancelled. So I'm gonna a good time playing this VN when I get the chance tonight.

Blaming covid for this product's downfalls is not realistic at this point. Products like this can be made 100% remote/from home.

To their credit, they earnestly made a better game.

There are problems with working remote, it depends on person to person.
Overall we don't know the impact of remote work, we can speculate that the lenght of work may have been due to being at home constantly,

Nah that is complete excrement from a bovine of your choice, there has been done massive amounts of research lately on working from home and the only thing they found is that productivity is sleightly lower than being in office in person, go googling for them.

Tried to find it but it seem like most studies are just as in general.

It been more helpful if there was more to a particular workplace. It be nicer to see the studies focused on video game development and the effects of working from home in this industry.

There are problems with in-office work too; many workers have noted how much more productive they are at home without people bothering them constantly and walking up to their desk.

Either way, some of the most popular and successful games in decades, or of all time even, were made in part during COVID. It's not an excuse.

After a lifetime around game development, I honestly question how it took five years to make this game under any circumstances.
