Is there a time limit?
I have the materials, but I can only craft items 4 times per day. So as soon as I start the day, I stop exploring to craft items and go back to the prison. Are there any disadvantages?

Not if you manage your sanity, in normal difficulty I found it fairly easy to do, tbh. I had to sell excess materials to clear the cell chest.
