Wizardry: The Five Ordeals

Prisoners of the Battles 4th Dungeon questions
I just finished the Lude Dungeon and wow, what a ride. Really one of the best Wizardry experiences I've had in years. Fantastic design.

I know the 4th dungeon in Prisoners of the Battles is sort of considered a "postgame" experience, and I have been a little spoiled on how it works, but I have a few more questions on how it works. Any answers would be appreciated.

1. Can the Ring of Beginnings be used multiple times (i.e., it won't break, right?)
2. When using the Ring, are characters stats reset as well as their level? (If so...what's the point vs. just making new characters?)
3. Is anyone I bring into the dungeon stuck there until I completely finish it?

1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Yes, Though a certain spell can and will make you leave the dungeon before you are done with it and you Absolutely Do Not Want that Ever to occur.

Kindly spoil me: I'm afraid to step on the "Escape hole" square next to the message at Ted's B1F 6,18. What happens if you do?

(Specifically I'm worried it won't give me a chance to choose NOT to escape.)

It's a damage pit. Just double checked, ouch. Certainly wont kick you out.

Is there any downside to turning on the mini-map switches? I'm doing mapping by hand but am curious given the ominous warning. (I'm assuming that's what the "Don't flip this switch" switch is.)

try casting magic map before and after hitting that switch.

I planned to not hit it at all! I believe dire warnings!

OK I tried it - turns out since i'm mapping by hand it's not a big deal. Is there any secondary effect beyond erasing your map?

Not that I know of. There will continue to be switches of the like to tickle the curiousity of people who just can't help themselves.

Ted's Maze: I've reached B12F. I've found various shops and services, but so far no armor or weapons shop. Have I missed one, or am I just at the mercy of the RNG to fill in gaps in my equipment?

You will have to rely on treasure chests for the majority of your time there, yes.
