Food...
When I grow my settlement I get in trouble with food. Aside from fertile land and crops I find no other really good food source. I checked previous threads that suggested hunting/fruit-gatherer-combos or pig-farms.
But when the population reaches above 500 these (plus mushroom farms) dont yield enough to feed your population unless you spam the map with them.
Which again leaves agriculture and the few spots that are suitable.
Suggestions?

Once, I grew a city up to 3 million citizens on Diety Difficulty. (it's on youtube too)
Here's some tips.

1. Build lots of bakeries in a large 2 row cluster (2x8 etc), adjacencies MATTER A LOT.
(In the late game, 200+ bread per bakery output tick is possible when stacking bonuses)

2. Build lots of Granaries to cover all your bakeries for bonuses (no these dont stack)
But you still need these to store the large quantities of Wheat/Flour that you produce/import.

3. Setup the granaries near your bakeries/windmills/house to only store only the item(s) needed for their job. Eg. Granaries closest to both houses AND bakeries should store only bread, Granary closest to only bakeries should store only flour, wheat for windmills etc (use common sense). Remove Wheat/flour storage EVERYWHERE ELSE so your dumb labourers dont transport your wheat so far away that it gets eaten without processing. or bring your flour so far away to store that you have lost all efficiency importing it.

4. Build some Windmills close to your granaries/bakeries

5. Build Trading Companies near your bakeries, you will not be able to produce enough closely enough or quickly enough, imports bring them directly where they can be immediately processed. Import Large quantities of Wheat/Flour. Set your auto trader to import up to 2k or 3k or whatever you are comfortable storing.

6. You can setup lots of these "Bakery Clusters" all around your empire. They either need to be supplied with huge farms... or trading company imports.

7. I prefer creating a single Bakery Mega Cluster... and further out just build different clusters producing other types of food like ranch clusters etc. This is because the game mechanics seem to have changed so you can only auto import in mass to a single location now.

8. Have fun lagging your game with your new rediculous population! ;) :steammocking:

I personally think the devs need to do more terraforming stuff, allow us to cut our own irrigation canals, divert rivers etc, so we can spread the arable land to the far corners of our kingdom instead of having to rely solely on these tactics to survive.

Use irrigation pump for this.

3 million population on deity?! Your PC can handle it?! As far as i know some can only do 10k on any difficulty before the lag comes in.

That is 375.000 houses on max habitability right? How would you find space and money and time to build them plus the accomodating resources?

He is lying i know how he played the game. Deity on previous versions are much more harder than the 2 following versions. I watch his deity game one time and he coukd hardly stabilize his settlement. Ive been Monitoring players of this game sbd so far there was only 1 player who had reach ir probably reached 10k. @problem solver.

I know, just not pointing it out straightforwardly.
