Ancient Shrines
What do these do? Does anyone know?

When you unlock the region you will be gifted a rare card (Production/Sustainability etc)
Other than that it just takes real estate.

Dev's should utilize this building like be able to build like a holy place like in Civ

Agreed - I think these shrines could be used as temples, or holy places, that give an uplifting effect to those who visit them... would love if there were druids or similar, arranging special celebrations near the shrines... like a Stonehenge :)

You can explore them when you have a museum (late game) this can grant you artifacts when placed in the museom give you city wide bonusses!
It is a very fun late game niche to the game
