How is this for single player?
I see a lot of reviews focusing on multiplayer. How does this game rate for a single player game. Some multiplayer games sacrifice single player elements to push multiplayer focus and I want to make sure that isn't the case. I have seen it countless times, especially with co-op games. They are made for co-op but say single player is an option but then are not geared and become frustrating or boring to play without others.

I loved banished, city skylines, dwarf fortress, surviving mars, older sim cities, rimworld, etc... how does this relate? Is this worth a buy?

I'm playing single player and so far it has been really fun...though, some of the computer player AI can be a bit dumb. That's something that takes a long time to flesh out, however, and I've also only tried Normal difficulty so far.

Try it if you got the spare cash, dude! If it's not your fancy, grab a refund from Steam (less than two hours played, less than 2 weeks after purchase)

I read this too and dont know why this game should be multiplayer orientated.

I played a long match in single player and multiplayer (one buddy) and it played the same - both good :)

In multiplayer i sometimes had to gift food to my buddy but that´s all...

So absolutly no problem playing it only in signle player! But as mentioned, you just player for yourself, no AI or whatsoever (htere are more or less placeholders rightnow)

The single player aspect of the game is no different from other city management games like Banished. You build your colony, buy territory with food/influence/gold, and expand to your heart's content.

The AI isn't complex enough yet to be a concern so you can set your map with 8 players if you really feel like taking them as vassals later. They aren't worth interacting with in single player as the game stands. I constantly find them with full storage yards and a spattering of houses. They will expand but they don't grow.

So the multiplayer use cards that you get in the card system are pretty pointless to use on the AI unless you want to steal some gold or population from them - but since they pose no threat to you, it is never really necessary.

So how difficult/enjoyable do you find the game to be? I would try the game, but I'm unsure if I'll get a decent feel for things in just 2 hours. I've read some reviews calling the game overly easy, so I'm curious about it. Is it surviving mars easy where you can basically snooze through the game? I'm not looking for something brutally hard, but i want something similar to banished where you can chill and have fun but at the same time you need to stay on top of your game and mistakes can be costly.

Its nowhere near banished...i never had any trouble. But of course you need to plan and think.

Sounds like a game for you :)

The game is good for singleplayer (at least for me). I'm having tons of fun. I manage to play while I work because it doesn't really require that much attention, since it's peaceful and there are no wars. In my opinion, there's a lot of stuff to add and balance. I'm hoping that they will implement a workshop or get some advice from modders on what should be added and then decide if that's the direction they want to go and either implement that stuff or skip it.

Depends how you decide to play it.
Each playthrough can be different.
You can start your town in desert with not much food or wood to build stuff and focus on mining and smelting and trading, or you can go easy route with lots of forests, rivers, sea and produce lots of food and then trade, or you can go in a mountain/winter region and focus on both mining and hunting, but have increased wood and food consumption.
There's also difficulty setting. It's up to you.
The game is better and more fun with friends also.
There's no war, so you can help your friend or steal from him. :) :P
But it's still alpha, so there are some kinks to be dealt with and make it more difficult.
